Lost the key

Lil brother of mine lost his key to his blaster and I was wandering what would be the best way to get it going again. thought of a couple of options but wanted everyone's input if they have every done this. I can either:

1. Order a new key from yamaha if I gave them alll the info for the bike.

2. Go buy a universal key from the local o'reilleys and wire it in.

3. Buy a new key/switch used from ebay.

Are blaster/banshee keys/switches interchangeable?

thanks,

Dustin

it shoud be the same as a banshee... from the key there is 4 wires? follow those down and there should be a plug... on the other side of the plug there is 2 wires? those two wire you cut and splice together and your good.. get some liquid tape at walmart in the auto section and seal the wires up...

ummmm i think you might be wrong guys. i am a member of project blaster's forum and they say that you just disconnect the 2 wires. don't splice them together. the blaster key switch only has 2 wires coming off of it. there is a set of quick disconnects that you can just unplug. if you need the wires connected then you can just plug them together. if you want a switch with a key let me know i have an extra one out in my garage. i can get you pics if you want. i'll let you have it for $20 shipped.

and no blaster and banshee key switches are not interchangeable. like i said the blaster switch has 2 wires and the banshee switch has 4.

on my banshee it is the opposite. if you unplug the key hardness the bike runs. if you try and splice the wires it wont run.

guess i got one of them banshees made on a monday.

sounds more like a friday after lunch rolling into a long weekend bike you got...

casue that would defeat the whole purpose of the switch :)

here's some pics. i only have the one key for it. and i don't have the rubber cover for the key but this would be easier to put on a key chain. but if you are really wanting the rubber cover i can get one.

anyway here's the pics:

thats not true. im telling you my bike will run normally with the key wires unplugged. i went through this when i installed my tethered kill switch. i thought i could just cut and splice it in place of the key.

when i did that the banshee would only run with the tether REMOVED. if i plugged the tether in the engine would die.

under normal conditions you would think removing the key would interrupt power going to the cdi or coil or some part of the ignition system.

on the banshee i theorise that it is the opposite, and instead of interupting power, it instead interups the ground or some part of the ignition. but i have no proof.

all i know is that my bike (which i bought new 9 months ago and no one has ever worked on it or even touched it besides me) only runs when the 2 key wires are not connected.

well i hate to break it to you but your theory is backwards... when you dont connect the loop by i.e. tether or splicing your curcit is open... and with electical current an open curcit is a none working curcit... you must complete the curcit and close it so the loop is completed for it to work./... so if you bike only ran with the tether out or the wires not spliced you got some electrical problems somewhere along the way thats for sure

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: One trip to glamis i forgot my key due to being rushed and i was new to the banshee world at the time and had to pay a dude 25 bucks to hot wire my bike so that sucks but since then i have put a kill switch that we wired into my coil i belive
