jmd0346 Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I said it was a joke because my worn out .100 over cylinders walked all over it. I wasnt too impressed. That being said, I believe a strong port on stock cyls is a WAY better path. Its far cheaper, and easier to deal with IMO. Thats sweet that youre super happy with the 404, im sure I would be too if I had one dialed in and tearin ass. Maybe the ones Ive ran into are not built correctly, or the rider is a a sorry SOB. I built a Vito 404 for a friend of mine. I gotta tell ya it was strong. It ran pretty even with my setup. It had a little more low end which made it fun to ride. Great trail bike. For anyone not wanting to go cub Id say its a great kit. I agree the rider has ALOT to do with it. Also the "tooner".lol I built/tuned this bike and spent alot of time with it. Quote

I prefer the Ice though, gets ya real drunk for real cheap, I've been buyin' that shit since I was in high school. :yelrotflmao: Quote
Meat Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Meat...Let me clarify... I've seen a worked over 404 motor, meaning it was ported and had a good overall package done to it. That being said, my 421 spanked it in a 300ft drag, he had a lockup and override...I had a stock clutch and stock tranny. My experience against a 404 was strictly drag, strictly 300ft. That is why my post starts out: "For Drag Racing" I have absolutely NO DOUBT is it a better all around motor for duning, trails, etc. It has to be...a cub is pretty much a top end, dune and drag motor...it doesn't take much to make an all around better motor than a cub. A good set of ported stock cylinders setup properly is a better "all around" motor no doubt...and a blast to ride. So...that being said, my specific statements of a 404 Vito's vs a cub being a joke stands true in the drag racing perspective only, as I wrote. I don't' think I misrepresented anything incorrectly in my statement, and it was out of 100% experience... ya man, I wasnt fired up at anything you wrote, it was when "87sheerips" wrote that the motor was a joke that caught my attention. 87sheerips, I love ya man, ya got my respect and all, but let me tell yas, when Im riding my Banshee.... and im bizzin' down one of the big wide open coal haul roads in 4th gear and wick the throttle and terrain and trees start flyin' by, and my eyes are waterin' and the motor is pullin' so damn hard.... and I got a huge smile on my face, the last thing I'm thinking is "this motor is a joke". The facts are, my 404 setup runs great, and is alot of fun. Iv put ALOT of hours on the top end before I had a piston ring get welded\stuck in its groove, and it still runs pretty good with the stuck ring, just blows a bunch of blue smoke on that side till she warms up. Iv had alot of fun and have been riding it for years on the original set of pistons, and when I heard ya call it a "joke", I had to tell the folks my opinion. I have about 5 years of riding on my 404 motor and its not the fastest thing on a 300 foot race, but its hardly a joke. If at anytime I thought the 404 was junk, I would not be afraid to tell yas. Iv said before that I would not buy a 404 kit.... any big bore kit.... unless you need a resleeve. My juggs were at .080 at the time and a bore job wasnt going to clean em up, so I needed to resleeve my juggs, or a whole new setup that would of cost me three times as much as the $500 dollar 404cc kit. badshee Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 Well fellas, i had a 404 kit with some damn good porting done to it (nothing to drastic, just a trail port) but you can ask Lethaface on here how good it ran.. it made him made because his drag setup couldnt hold up to it.. now his bro has the cylinders and loves them.. yes the 404 kit does make your transfer ports smaller but a good builder will know what to do.. but all in all i loved my 404 kit.... it ran hard as hell and has tones of low to top end power... but if i were to do it all over again i would've jsut ported my stockers because i had a ton of money in my setup, you have to think the 404 is like 800 installed and a good port job is at least 300 so there is 1100 so far... just go with cubs for that amount of money... you can still ride trails with them but may not have as much fun as a ported 404 set... hope this helps........ Quote

Well maybe a "joke" wasnt the best word to say. Non the less, I wasnt too impressed with the one I ran into--Thats all plain and simple. Like I said before thats sweet you have a great running bike, I deoated the 404 kit as well when I had my .100 over cyls. Good luck with the bike man! Quote
theeechozen1 Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I like the RZ motors, they are super smooth and pull really hard. Granted the one I had was in a 3 wheeler with a 54 tooth sprocket  Quote
