Well as you can see from my post count Im a newbie and fairly new to banshees, but Ive been lurking on this forum for a while and have found a lot of usefull info. Since Im now in the market to purchase a banshee I put a few feelers wtb ads and have gotten a few responses. I was hoping to get some advice from some of you more expericed owners and riders. I am on a limited but somewhat loose budget as Im looking for an auto or semi auto quad for the wife, while also trying to get the inside of my addition repaired as well as the roof. I live in Washington and we're still recovering from a recent wind storm that had gust to 90mph and sustained winds of 50-60 mph. So heres what Ive been offered :

97 banshee w/03 motor 5hrs on motor {new not rebuilt}

Paul Turner pipes

K&N pro flo filter

stock carbs which are new also

bar risers & fat bars

Everything else is tight & in great shape {supposedly}

I have set a budget of about $3000 for a banshee and I thought about offering $2500 What do you guys/gals thinK?

I appreciate all input thanks in advance Bobby.

Anytime you can get a shee for around 3 grand I would say its a deal. You could part it out and make money on it if you didnt like it. I would say offer your 2500 and buy that sucker.

Thats good to hear! Is there anything I should look out for when looking at it, besides the norm? Basically any banshee specific problems I should watch for?

Well first of all the '03 motor, is that an actual '03 motor or wast eh 97 rebuilt in '03? It has the pipes, and a few other add on's, but $3000 or less sounds like a pretty decent deal for a shee. How rough are the plastics and the overall appearance of the bike? I would also be curious why someone would put new stock carbs on a bike, when with a littel more money you could get some really nice aftermarket carbs......

Start at your $2500 and see what you can do with it. Even at $3000 you won't be sorry............. :thumbsup:

take a look at the suspension. give it a oush on front and rear. make sure you cant bottom it out also make sure when it come back up it doesnt spring back up really quick. make sure you can hear it come back up. dont really know how to explain the sound but im sure you know what i mean. suspension is an expencive although a very good updrade but would blow you budget out of the water

I understand what you mean but it was explained to me that he already had a built stroker motor to put in his 03 banshee and so he bought a titled 97 banshee to put his almost stock 03 motor in. I plan on looking at it sometime this week, if all is good Ill problably buy it, if not oh well Im not in a real big hurry to buy one I would just hate to miss a good deal.

looks good but look at the frame and the mounts where that one ding is on the a-arm... and make sure everything is tight.. and ask alot of questions make sure everything is in good working order.. id ask him why he changed the carbs as well just... make sure it runs through all the gears good mayby check the compression.. i suppose this is just to make sure that its all in good working order so that you wont have to spend money after you just spent alot allready ..Also check the brakes and make sure they work good

Well I guess I can change the title on this thread as I can now say Im a proud new owner of a Banshee. I went to this guys house and got a taste of why the rest of you own a banshee, This thing frigging rips, kinda of scared me as I was test riding I pinned 3rd gear and it was instaneous acceleration and my ass slide almost off the end of the seat. everything else checked out great. Ill be picking the shee up this weekend along with some stock parts ie: air box, heel guards, and some paddles that he threw in with the deal. Unfortunately he wouldnt come down in price but Im happy with my purchase. Thanks again to those who left some input as I appreciate the help. See ya in the dunes.

Welcome, that buy makes you an officia BHQ member & it's that kind of power that get's ya hooked on riding. That is seriously a good deal for that price. You won't find good deals like that in Cali and let's say you did it' be a beat up stocker. Everything looks pretty good all around & mods are a huge +, a bigger + is the extra stuff he threw in. Looks like you're paddled and ready for the dunes. Take that baby out & report to us with vid/pix of your first trip out. Congrats :beer:
