banshee no power

Recommended Posts

Hey guys this is my first time posting i've been looking at everyones quads and reading post but havn't been posting and eveyone has some awesome banshees out there. But now its time to start posting! I have a problem w. my 2003 banshee! Its a completly stock! i just picked her up in sept some time, it was used but the guy never rode it at all, he just bought it added aluminum parts and sold it, belived to have only 3hrs on it(showroom condityion no scrathes anywhere or wear). but anyways i been riding it and its been fine but then when i went out to my track oneday i wasn't able to clear all the jumps the same i was coming up short, i though maybe the oil mixture to high so i drained her and filled her back up w. new gas and cleaned the plugs. it did not help i will start her and she will idle but when i take off it does rev high at all u can hold it full throttle in fisrt and it moves like a turtle i can barley make it up hills. so today i cleaned and changed the mixture again and still the same what should i do any help or info!

I'd change the plugs. Cleaning them really won't help if they're fouled. Check the obvious stuff: make sure the fuel line is not clogged, tors and parking brake crap unplugged, choke tube in place, air filter cleaned (as mentioned), carbs sync'd and cleaned. If it's none of those problems, check the compression; it could be time for a re-build; even fresh engines can go down quick if a ring breaks or wrist pin clip comes loose, etc.

As mentioned start off by changing your plugs. We had the same problem a couple days ago it was just a fouled plug. If you just bought your Shee and the person you bought it from was at a diffrent altitude than you that could be fouling your plugs, because your jetting would need to be changed. See if your plugs are really black and oily you may be running too rich. Good Luck and enjoy your new Shee.

I will def do and check everything tom. im sry to be a pain in the ass this is my first banshee, i had a blaster before but got ride of that and now i have kfx and yfz but anyways, whats the best mix ratio for a stock shee? 20:1 25:1 32:1 i have a ratio rite and i been using maxima super m oil. Again the problem is that all the gears bog out i cant go to 3rd or neasrly 2nd with out it dieing out on me, full throttle sounds likes it just gonna bog itsself out, the plugs are dark and a little oily so im hopeing their fauled. but i live 5 miles from nacs racing so ill go there and pick up plugs! u guys are all def. help thanks a lot and ill lets ya know what happens! :thanks:

i would try 36:1 with some good oil. maybe even 40:1 iv been rideing around with that since my bike was new 2 years ago and just tore it apart this winter but it was still in good running condition. definatly get some new plugs. also this is a stupid question but do you have your choke pulled out. make sure you check that as well as your choke tube inbetween the carbs. goes from on carb to another . is it poping and spiting. if so you probably running on one cylinder. hapend to me all the time when i had my first banshee. i was new to the banshees and the dealer had it running rich for the break in time expecting it would come back after about 3 tanks of gas but the guy sold it before the jetting was changed and i was left with a banshee that fouled its pulgs every ride. so if you get new plugs and it starts and runs fine but fouls again then i would say get you bike jetted and get a good oil and mix to 32:1 - 40:1 you should be fine with that mixture

I got home and i changed the plugs in my banshee! started first kick w. choke on (its cold here) i let it run for a few mins and it sounded better it was reving out so i thought i hoped i fixed it. but when i shifted into first it did the same thing wanted to die out shifted to secoind was barly moving. the filters pretty clean! and the lines are fine. could it be the carb tors, sync or carbs just need cleaning? it did sit for a month before the problem started does it take a banshee a while for it to warm up in cold weather cause i could touch the piupes after a few min of being one? still poofin out some oil could the oil just settled at the bottom of the carbs?

ok dont be afraid to take off ur carbs nothing is gonna fall out unexpectedly unscrew the caps-- pull the slides out one at a time and set them aside-- pull out the whole carb flip it around a few time upside down side to side and shit to let the gas out-- lay out a rag prop the carb upside down-- unscrew the 4 screws at the bottom lift the bowl straight up and off take plyers unscrew the main jet- and theres a little washer that sits flush behind it keep track of that-- dont be afrad to let the floats drop and move up and down-- blow out the jet and screw it back in-- shoot carb cleaner all through up and down left right the majority will shoot out the main then reasemble

** check ur GAP!!! 0.7-0.8
