g_low0885
i have heard that the cub moters are not good for trail riding. that they have no bottom end and that the powerband comes on so strong that they do not make good trail moters. can you set one up for the trails? i already have a +4 crank that has been trued and welded. BigRed350x
They sure are, all you have to do is... buy the cubs, sell the cubs, buy stock cylinders back, send stockers out to get a bottom-end port job, and take your magic marker and write "cub" on the sides of your stockers. badassbanshee479
they make awesome trail motors! I would by a 10 mill though cause everyones doing it! why do so many people want to take a pro mod drag car to the hot dog stand? it is so much cheaper and better to have your stock cylinders ported for what you are going to be doing rather than buy something you are not going to use it to its full potential! 2005SEBANSHEE
I think with the right gearing, and tires, any shee can be trail ridden w/ out too much concern
Bansh-eman
I think with the right gearing, and tires, any shee can be trail ridden w/ out too much concern you havent riden a cub have you? they are anything but trail friendly... the power band hit very violently ... and the bottom end is horrable... it can be ridin on the trails , but its the ideal motor by any means,no bottom end to pull with and not enough open straights to stay on the pipe very lo0ng

2005SEBANSHEE
I guess it all depends on the trail... I live in the desert where you take take advantage of as much power as you can afford. But when the competition is 50hp 450 thumpers, you dont need to spend much in that department to be at the top of your class in desert racing. Suspension is another story
cam2
i have heard that the cub moters are not good for trail riding. that they have no bottom end and that the powerband comes on so strong that they do not make good trail moters. can you set one up for the trails? i already have a +4 crank that has been trued and welded. you have heard correctly. you would definitely enjoy a set of stock cylinders with a MX or dune/play port much more than a set of cubs in the trails. no matter how you set up the cubs as far as pipes, carbs, tires, gearing, etc. oh, and good luck getting a cub motor to hook up in the trails and if you do then the front end will come up. then if you try to prevent the front end from coming up with a longer swing arm then you'll be taking away from your manueverability. trust me, along with the others, we speak from experience. i bought my shee new and like others have gone through different stages, as far as pipes and ported stock cylinders to the 421 cub motor and this is the worst set up for the trails that i have ever ridden. the cub motor is one hell of a blast in the open or in a drag race where it was designed for. you havent riden a cub have you? they are anything but trail friendly... the power band hit very violently ... and the bottom end is horrable... it can be ridin on the trails , but its the ideal motor by any means,no bottom end to pull with and not enough open straights to stay on the pipe very lo0ng well said. and i've noticed that when you do come off the pipe in a higher gear you'll need to slow down and down shift in order to get back on the pipe instead rolling back on the throttle like i was usually able to do with other set ups. of course my gearing could have an effect on this but mainly it's because it has a peakier HP characteristic than my other set ups. dajogejr
I think with the right gearing, and tires, any shee can be trail ridden w/ out too much concern Wrongo.... I had a 421 cub, T5 pipes and stock carbs. Short of buying a 1 into 2 carb and 2 into 1 pipe, that's about as choked down you can make a cub, and it was still a TERRIBLE trail bike. And I'm talking UP Michigan trails, wide open, 2 car widths wide...etc. Either Red or JT said it best, all kinds of the wrong kind of power. Just as your getting on the pipe and pulling...smack...locking up the binders...truly no fun. I'll even go as far to say that a cub is better for 75% or better drag racing, 25% duning... I'm building a 10 mil cub because I simply like going fast in the parking lot at the dunes....LOL...(nice one JT...) Yeah, do a search. Plenty have tried to detune them, etc., but you're wasting money, in that case get a good dune port on stockers...as said.

CMAC
thanxs dajogejr, youve saved me a shit load of money! I run in the michigan UP on 2 car wide logging roads too. I was thinking about a cheeta but after i seen what you had to say, not anymore. Do you think a stroker would maybe be the way to go? Geoff
Why not do a 4mil in the stock cylinders with the appropriate porting, If I'm correct some guys are getting close to 80hp out of them. I've heard a few guys say that when they had 4mil w/stock cylinders it was the funnest bike they've had......not the fastest though Theres so much stuff out there it's easy to get lost in what you REALLY want/need, since it seems like everyone is building a 4mil cub these days. Good luck

I think a good dune port and 4 mil stroker crank is a great, great combo. Just get the cylinders ported for the crank...and don't go TOO large on the carbs or pipes. T5s or Trinitys and a pair of 33PWKs would probably one fun ass bike to ride!!
