kawiking Posted December 30, 2006 Report Share Posted December 30, 2006 i have stock jugs-.40 over.. lightened flywheel,head shaved .030 ,reeds cage shaved , cpi out of frame pipes, hot rod crank and a f.a.s.t. clutch. pretty much your basic set up. i have a +6 swing arm and more of a duner/drag set up . i ride alot on river sand bars and dirt/sand drag strips. i run a 22-10-8 8 paddle hauler. dirts not to bad but they spin alot of the line in the sand. my ? is do more people run a 10 or 8 paddle hauler on their shee's. i hate to buy some 10's and find out they bog. i know my shee will pull them ,if the sands soft it will spin all the way threw 2nd and hook in high rpm 3rd. sand/dirt spins but not as bad. i know they dont have the low end like a 4-stroke so i dont want to over paddle it. In Oregon are hills aren't as long so whoever gets off the line the quickest usually wins.....lots of guys running 12pdl, in Cali they'd probably have 6-8 pdl on the same bike because of the long hills and paddle drag. sheefreak Posted January 2, 2007 Report Share Posted January 2, 2007 Are you pretty light? Curious as to why you went w/a +6 for the mods you have. Maybe for future planning? I run a +6, 9-paddle haulers, and about 85 horse and I hook hard in sand. Another thing to look at is your gearing. Are you running a 20 or 22 inch tire? If you tried both tires w/same amount of paddles, there would be a drastic difference as rollout affects final drive gear ratio. If you are blowing them off, gear up a little. It won't blow the tires off at the line as much(if at all) and you will have much more on top. Just remember, longer swingarm equals less traction. More paddles eauals less speed, etc. You can make an adjustment to fix your problem by going w/more paddle, but at the expense of top end speed. I have 10 paddle haulers for sale in the classified if you'd like to try 'em. I ran them on my 100HP 4 mil cub with a 6 over, yeah....the hook quite nicely. kawiking Posted January 4, 2007 Author Report Share Posted January 4, 2007 lol-lol!!! funny story, i put the +6 on for looks(kind of). i like how they look. plus my kfx 400 has stock swing arm and i cant keep it down,(even lowered the front and sit on gas tank. buddy had a shee just like mine and he couldnt keep his down so he went with a +6. so when i was putting mine together(bought it for $500 frame,motor and abunch of parts in boxes) i decidied to go ahead and get the +6. we dont have big dunes around here, we have river beds(tacky sand) and dirt/sand drag strips.went to little sahara,oklahoma acouple of months ago, dune sand very diffrent-wouldnt hook up for crap(either bike). sheefreak-- great info,thanks----- im running 22's and i really didnt even think about gearing. should have,geared down on my kfx for a better hole shot. thank all of you,this is why i like BHQ, great advice. I'm in the same boat as you b/c at St. Joes and Waurika I can even get my 8 paddle V's to hook very nice but I went to LS and just spun the hell out of 'em. V Paddles will never hook like a straight paddle, they will turn better...that's the trade off. 8 paddle haulers will be fine for your setup... bansheefreak Posted January 6, 2007 Report Share Posted January 6, 2007 i run 10 paddles on my stock banshee other then pipes .. and it ran fine in oklahoma .. i was worried bout it bogging but never did.. i got a good deal on them but they work fine hopefully soon they will be in better use .. aka motor mods.. ohh i forgot to mention i was running a minus 2.5 swinger too so no problem with traction...
