brokesoftwaretester Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 I planned on having my wife ride on the back of the banshee when we go to glamis in 2 weeks, I just read that "Carrying of passengers. No operator of an all0terrain vehicle shall carry a passenger while operating on public lands. (38506 C.V.C.)". How enforced is this rule? She is 10X more dangerous to herself and others on her own bike as opposed to being on the back of mine... I didn't plan on even bringing her bike. Do you think we'll be alright? What's the fine for non-compliance? I really don't want to have to take another bike. Quote
r/atvshee Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 if you dont mind getting tickets Quote
brokesoftwaretester Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 Best I can tell it is a $35 fine? Quote
RATBIKE0130 Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 The problems start where you receive the ticket and you will get one. From that spot she or you must walk back to camp or hitch a ride from someone that has an extra seat. This doesn't mean in the bed of a truck. If guess if she doesn't mind sitting at Olds for an hour while you go get your 4x4 truck to pick her up... Quote
DuneRookie Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 you will definitely get pulled over. Don't do it......it makes us duners look irresponsible and with all the enviro wakos it just adds fuel to the fire to try to close more of our wonderful dunes.....ride safe..... Quote
feedmelies Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 You will get a ticket if you are seen. My sister and niece were riding on my huge Prairie 650 4x4 which has more than enough room for two people and they got ticketed. I had to drive my truck out to the vendors to pick my sister up. My advice to you is to get another atv out there. Quote
brokesoftwaretester Posted December 22, 2006 Author Report Posted December 22, 2006 I guess it wouldn't be any fun if that were the case. Seems 7 or 8 years ago I saw people everywhere riding doubles, then again a lot has probably changed since last time I was there. Quote
Jhughes7 Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 Is that a state law? I ride my wife around all day up here in oregon with no problems Quote
brokesoftwaretester Posted December 22, 2006 Author Report Posted December 22, 2006 Is that a state law? I ride my wife around all day up here in oregon with no problems Yes, CA law I believe. A loophole in amendment 111 may be to 'design the quad for means of carrying a passenger'... I guess that means hand grips, and footpegs for your passenger, although it isn't clearly defined. Quote
Jhughes7 Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 The only problem we ever encountered was when my wifes brother, Trapped a Lawn chair into the back of his Rhino. But the cops wouldnt let someone sit back there. I guess it has to be bolted down to be legal, But it was quite sturdy. Quote
ClimbAnyHill Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 They enforce it to prevent double riders from getting into big accidents. I get a kick by lookin at this pic I took last month! Double ride, no helmets & a cold one, That's a big fine there!!! Quote

Animalman294 Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Plus you have more fun ridin' your bike by yourself anyway. I would just get her her own bike, and if you are worried about her gettin' hurt get her a small bike............ Quote
