damn that sucks... I wish i had the ability to do machining work :notworthy:

Its not really that hard, just practice and having the tools to do it.

I'm just glad it was a simple fix and nothing too horrible happened. I'm going to change some stuff and try again after I get the parts I need to get back up and running. Should be fun! See how many top ends I can blow through before I figure out how to tune this thing on methanol. LOL! If things go too bad next time I will just get a cub. See if I can't trash some nicasil. :yelrotflmao:

I coated a set of domes to get rid of some damage like that. It wasnt quite as bad, but it worked. Once I blasted the domes with slag you couldnt even see the damage any more. Then I sprayed on this heat reflective coating made for combustion chambers and piston heads. Bake at 300 for 1 hr to cure.

Here is my coated Wiesco Pistons

Me and a coulple of guys might head out your way and try the riding at KP Dunes. We ususally go some where out of state in Ocotber. We have been thinking about trying KP out.

Winter time isn't the best time for KP. Our dunes do get snow and they get really nasty in the winter time because of the wind and drifts. I would recomend any time between april and september for the best riding. July is the absolute best though, if you like heat. We run around in shorts and T-Shirts all through july. June it will rain almost every afternoon, but if you want to hang out by the pond or do some swimming out on the dunes, june is hte time to come.

Let me know when you plan on comming and I will meet you and show you around. KP isn't really like many other dunes, we have vegitation, rocks, ponds, etc scattered throughout the dunes.

Damn, that's awful. Looks to me like you build it up so it will break and then you can work on it some more...lol.

That's a great looking Shee! Sounds fast. Do you think the skirt got caught on the ports? I've heard of that happening.

B-T-W, is that snow in the dunes?! Damn, that looks cold. Where is that?

Have fun on the rebuild

Doesn't look the least bit lean to me from the pictures. Personally I think people are way to quick to call a blown motor a lean out. That looks like the skirt just broke, plain and simple. The piston doesn't look burnt anywhere, there isn't any aluminum on the exhaust port (that I can see from the pics), and there arn't any marks from a siezure (what might look like one on the window side of the piston is from the skirt breaking). It happens, and with the pistons having been ported it doesn't surprise me one bit. Personally Id just get new pistons, make sure you don't have too much clearance, and ride it some more.

Oh, and your fucking nuts for riding when its that cold. Anything below 40 is too cold for me. Course most of the winter its in the 60s here.

when your dump tube is only at .118 and you have a .120 main, it only flows at a .118. you have to drill the dump tube to the same size as your main.

i think majicmike told you that on a previous post.

only drill it out to the size of main you have in it .

too each their own but here the greatest proof to NOT port the pistons.

maybe it make more power but i woudl think weakening a very important part isnt the smartest idea.

Exactly. If I had known the pistons were opened up ANY at all I would have tore it down and replaced them when I got them. I've always thought it was a just plain stupid idea to remove material from a piston. They come the way they are for a reason... Plus what do you gain... maybe 1 or 2hp? MAX. Risk what happened to me for 1hp. No thanks! You won't ever feel 1hp anyway, so why bother unless you are racing a dyno?

Dump Tubes are .128

Going to run a .125 main on the next try. LOL!

I'm the one that told you that your jetting was rich the way it was :whistling: . But for some reason my motors like less fuel than others I guess. I'm running a .104 with the pj's 1.5 turns out. Glad you got it fixed though. And I kinda agree with you about the piston windows but at the same time I have never had a skirt break.
