where did this come from

I put FMF fattys on my shee did alittle drag race and then it woulden't stay running. I did a comp test and on the right side it was 0. I took the topend off and found what looked like a piston ring that looked like it was pulled up from the bottom of the motor up the cylinder wall (ouch :banghead: ) and fragmented and pitted the hell out of the top of my head and piston. Now I checked and i have all the rings on both sides and the ring position pins, and the cerclips for the risk pins. Is there ennything in the bottom of the motor that resembles a piston ring. I have allready sent out my jugs to be board and new pistons and am concerned that some clip is missing. The top end was redone 2 years ago and has a ton of houres on the build could a old ring be left in the bottom and took this long to work its way up.

sounds like bad timing and after 2 yrs and tons of hrs it went after you put pipes on.. i would suggest you split the cases and make sure there is nutin in the case.... but to answer your qeustion no there would not be left over rings from 2 yrs ago just now working it way to piston to screw things up... i might suggest using a diff kind of oil if this is second time this has happended or something... but 2 yrs on a motor with tons of hrs isnt bad...

i dont know how it could happen but it could by the sounds of what you are discribing be one of those half moon looking things that go in the case sides by the crank(almost looks like 1/2 a piston ring)

I agree...anytime you grenade a motor, take the bottom end apart to check the crank bearings and clean out any debris that could be sucked or dredged up...not worth the risk or money otherwise...

Had this happen on a 10mm sounds like you had a crank bearing case let go and eather the clip that holds the clutch side bearing came out with the case or just the outter ring of the bearing case. You should tare it all down at this point.

I went to bike bandet and looked at a scematic of the crank and I bet it was that half moon clip. Like I said it looked like a piston ring and i had them all. Now that I am going to split the case is there anything I should be carefu of while doing so. Or is there anything I should replace while in there. Thankyou for all your input. I would be lost without all of you. :notworthy:

Sorry I dident ansur but yes I did. I think I am running a 260 main and I bumped up the pilot aswell cant rember the # right now.

260 seems right, if you are running an airbox with a lid, at mild temps, and lower altitudes. Just wanted to start with the obvious first. Other then that, sounds like you had something rattling around in there.

with lid without snorkel. I want to keep the lid but make a new snorkel that is larger to accomedate more air. I like to get into some mud and need to keep the lid. I just started work on the case clutch side first while it was in the frame so i could use the drive line to remove nuts. I need to find a stator puller to continue. Are their some low dollar mods I can do while I have the case open. Need to save some $ wife is looking for a better job at the moment, my overtime is over, and christmas and all, but while I'm in there I would like to do what I can.
