Wondering if anyone has tried this..

I was wondering if anyone has installed a radiator fan on there shee or a sensor that shuts the motor down if it hits a certain temp. I havent thought too in depth about it such as clearance around the radiator for a fan and how you could rig up a shut off sensor for the motor but its an idea. I just think it would be cool to try and a little project for the boring sundays.

What you guys think? Am I retarted?

DC Conversion and an eletrica fan that will fit just inside your fadiator shroud does exactly what you are looking to do here. Seen a lot of them like that at the walden dunes. You will need the DC conversion to really take advantage of the fan though.

If you are jetted right and getting at least a little bit of air moving through your radiator you won't need it though. If you need a fan to cool your bike, your jetting is way off, or you need to get your ass back in the saddle and quick sitting around idling all the time. :ninja:

in south florida theres some tight trails and a normal banshee will overheat on them. you just cant go fast in 1st gear. and these are definitly 1st gear trails. ive rigged up 4 radiator fans (small ones) running on dc. instead of a tempature switch i just have the fans wired to come on with my low beans (which are disconnected). and at night i turn my high beans on and the fans are not on the high bean circut.

i think the whole thing cost me about $20 including the dc conversion.

Sounds like a good set up

murphy makes what they call switch gauges they have an adjustable tattle tail that grounds against the needle & grounds a wire comming out of the gauge. You just hook it up to your ignition to ground it when it reaches set temp. Ijust bought some comp. fans to try csrmel's set up

the problem with a switch that shuts the bike down when it gets too hot is that the motor would still get hotter before it starts to cool.

I dont see how this would happen, could you please explain?

And if it does happen, I dont think heat will hurt a non-running motor, whats it gonna do melt?

My bike doesnt overheat at all. I was just thinking of some ideas and quick cheap mods to do when im bored. I figured if i installed fans then when im waiting for the bike to cool down the time waiting would be less, because I hate sitting waiting. Plus they would come in handy for the days I feel like putting around the yard just screwin around where I cant get out of 2nd. Just an idea.

Also has anyone ever tried a ram air set-up like on cars. I dont know if it would be any benefit, but again just an idea and something to mess around with.

The water in the engine is awalys moving when the bike is runnning and when you turn it off the water stops and is saturated with heat untill it either boils inside the motor or the bike cools down. Because of this it cause parts to cool at different rates which could cause warping or cracking. That is why in race cars you always see them do a cool down lap before coming into the pits.(except in the middle of the race because they are not actually stopping)

Please show a pic of these fans Im interested in how you did it so it doesnt look stupid! Im having a small overheating problem and though about a fan that I could turn on when my temp starts climbing when I need to go slow. I have a very short track and my shee always pukes a little coolant when Im running her hard. A fan would be Kick ass. The 450r's have em on the back side I wonder if we could fit one on the back side or is there not enough room?

sounds like a good idea.. you could put the fan on back side of rad.. but the fan will have to be set up to draw air in and not flow out.. there would be room on the back side .. a alarm would be good to let you know to either ease up let fan cool it or what ever.. although most guys with aftermarket rad and engine ice engines stay cool anways...

i really need to get around to adding a how-to guide for banshee radiator fans. they wont fit behind the radiator. the steering stem is in the way and there isnt enough clearence for even tiny computer fans.

one of these days ill get around to it.

375 you comming to ocala!

probably not , real busy, wife has class, & i'm not taking my daughter there during hunting season again :banghead:

Gary has property closer to you guys & we will be getting another date together soon, its alot better than any place we've been the only kicker is it's locked up tight & no facilities. It's like A hunting camp (w/o the hunters) many owners & hundreds of acres of every thing but hills (big ones anyway) & we would have to meet at a certian time so Gary doesn't have to keep going to the gate his "lot" is pretty far back, but there is a parking lot at the front for every body w/o 4x4 to park & unload. I'll keep you posted
