burn1banshee Posted November 24, 2006 Report Share Posted November 24, 2006 i ave an 04 banshee thats bored .40 over with coolhead 21cc domes paul turner pipes mild port and polish with k&n with pro flow adapter i had 300 mains needle in the middle with stock pilotand air screw out about a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn im in minnesota so elvation is just above sea level and temps wiill probably be 20 to 30 degees my gas is 92 octane with amsoil dominater 40 to 1. it blew up on me with this setup and i think im going to try 320 mains with a 30 pilot, dennis kirk only goes in increments of 5 or i would probably try 27.5 pilots . do you think this would be close and will the 30 pilots be ok please help im sick of rebuilding this thing. I'd go to at least a 330s or 340s and see what happens; much better to be rich than lean, as you've so discovered. most bikes run 300s and 310s with pipes alone. in those temps, 30 pilots might be right on. i'd dial in the pilots by how it starts. if its starting fine, leave it alone. the "blowup" would be more caused by needle and main settings. get some more fuel in that that so you'll quit blowing it up. burn1banshee Posted November 24, 2006 Author Report Share Posted November 24, 2006 ill try them i tried 340 mains this summer around 70 to 80 degrres and i had to remove my airlid to get it to open up but know that its getting colder they might work. im not sure why it blew up this time but i know the other 2 were because of jetting but thanks to these forums i thought i had it pretty close. but the every time the cylinder look the same it looks almost like the ring cathes the exhaust port or they just seem to get messed up in that area. i just want to get it right this time thanks for the input. sheefreak Posted November 24, 2006 Report Share Posted November 24, 2006 Take a pic of your pistons w/rings still on and post them. Can help you determine the cause so this doesn't keep happening. At this rate you are going to need to resleeve or buy new cyls very soon. Have you split the bottom end before? csrmel Posted November 27, 2006 Report Share Posted November 27, 2006 you cant fix a mechanical problem by adding fuel. if youre rings are getting snagged in the exhaust port thats NOT a function of the jetting. thats more like a porting or cylinder boring issue. were all of the ports correctly chamfered the last time it was ported or bored out? who did the port job and cylinder boring? Save your pics to a service like www.photobucket.com Can you take some better shots of these? Doesn't really look lean to me. dajogejr Posted November 29, 2006 Report Share Posted November 29, 2006 I think the squish is too tight on the one piston that got chewed up. Notice it melted around the edges, NOT in the middle.... Possible a bad crank bearing on that side allowing the piston to touch...or almost touch the head itself. I'd be tearing that whole motor down, have the crank checked, the cylinders bored and chamferred, and the head checked for flatness. Then check the squish....
