watkins
Wierd issue for me, last desert trip out my stator went out on me. Got home, pulled the flywheel and the stator was literally in pieces. Upon inspection it appears that the screws holding the flywheel to the timing plate sheared off (2 out of 3 did), and i assume after that happend the stator was free to move and came in contact with the flywheel. Ok I scratched my head and said it must be a fluke, so called up Ricky Stator and got yet another new 200W Stator from them (this is #2). Installed it with a new timing plate from them put the flywheel back on and spun it by hand. Now while spinning it by hand it sounds like in one spot it is rubbing on something, its a very faint rubbing sound but it definitly sounds like its rubbing at some point on the stator.. im going to fire the bike up let it run for a few min and then pull the flywheel again and check out the stator. Question is... anybody ever heard of a flywheel rubbing on the stator? Has anyone had a stator break loose like mine did? Im not talking about screws backing out, im talking about the screwed being ripped out. The flywheel is new (2 trips on it, its a Ricky Stator HO Flywheel) and the stator and timing plate the blew up was brand new as well direct from Ricky Stator. Any input would be great as this is puzzling me. Edited November 8, 2006 by watkins

It's possible the bolts backed out and from there it destroyed it, or the flywheel can warp over time. Sometimes on aftermarket flywheels as well, the magnets can come loose (if it has that type of magnets). Make sure to use locktite on the bolts, but if it feels like it's rubbing, or makes a squealing noise while running, you have an issue, probably with the flywheel. The stator only needs roughly 1mm of clearance from the flywheel, but if it's dragging it will ruin it sooner or later. I would contact Ricky about it. -Steven Newman -Technical Support -ElectroSport Industries -Electrex USA LTD. -3803 Oceanic Dr. Unit 201 -Oceanside, CA 92056 -ORDERS : 1-888-369-8359 -TECH : 1-760-842-8300 -www.electrosport.com
jbooker82
Mine came loose. We were out trail riding. I shut it off then the stator scuked up to the magnets in the flywheel. Went to kick it over and thought it locked up. Pulled the whole engine out thinking it was locked up. The screws backed out of the timing plate and went in to the flywheel shearing them off. I just got a new timing plate and used my stator. I put some lock tight on them this time.
JKJK
DO NOT run it! Figure out the problem first.I agree it could have been caused by any of those screws coming loose or a bad crank bearing. I've had a similar thing happen. It was from a toasted left side crank bearing. If you can hear something rubbing, then remove the flywheel+inspect. After you remove flywheel.Grab the crank snout+check for any up+down or front to back play. There should be none. J-Madd
My friend's Ricky Stator 200w did the exact same thing. It was preassembled to the timing plate when he got it, so he couldn't have been at fault for the stator breaking loose from the plate. We tore apart the top end and were about to get in the to bottom when we discovered the problem. It acted like it was locked up. Ricky Stator sent out another w/out any problems. Yeah, I am going to see what happens. Im going to do what JKJK said, and if all looks good then I will run it, if it happens again then I will call up Ricky Stator and see if I can get a replacement flywheel from them for free.. I paid for the replacment stator this time around because I wasnt sure what caused it. Jbooker82, mine did the same thing... when it first happened I thought my motor locked up, first my lights went out and would flicker on from time to time, but motor still ran strong. Next day it ran for a few hours but didnt have much of any top end power, then after a few hours of riding it completly crapped out on me. At least I still got some riding in on that trip. Right on! Do not run it untill you solve the problem. Just take a dial indicator & touch of on the end of the crankshaft & the TIR should be less than 0.003 inch. You can see if there is any free play in the bearing at the same time. If there is not a problem found, check the TIR with the flywheel attached. Better to identify the cause before more damage is done.
'99350t
i didnt read all the threads so maybe this has been brought up and sorry if it has. but on my old tecate i had some wicked stator problems with it, and once a screw holding the stator on the timing plate loosend up enough to touch the flywheel and it shorted itself out some how...
