jim1182
Hey gang, A rookie here so please be kind if i sound like a dumbass.03 banshee with cool head,t-5's, keihin carbs,k/n filter no airbox. and a boost bottle, these are the only mods i know of as i bought the bike used and until now it has ran flawless. I am running on one cylinder as we speak.I have changed and gapped plugs, had the coil pack tested, swapped out the cdi box from a friends shee and mine is good.Pulled both carbs and cleaned the daylights out of them.I did a compression test on both cylinders and they are 95 psi in both(according to my local yamaha dealer it should not run so i held the phone down to the pipe and he said i dont know what to tell you and hung up) MY friend with the other shee says its carb so we switched carbs around and sure enough now it runs on the opposite cylinder....At this point i have pulled this carb apart 10 times cleaned and re-cleaned and still the same result..My question is can a jet go bad? The bowl is always full when i pull it apart and there is fuel blowing out the dead cylinder when its running on the other.Getting frustrated ....any help is appreciated...Jim

It may be time for a rebuild regardless. What domes do you have in the coolhead? Have you pulled your main and pilot jet out and cleaned them? It doesn't take much to plug the pilot. Look in it and make sure you can see through the holes. It could also be your float level. It may be pushing in more fuel than it can burn. If you have a clymers, it will explain how to do it. greg_banshee
yeah i think ur carbs are clean enough haha but when ur compression is down to 95 psi ... it will run but u'll kick & kick & kick etc.. until u get it to start u might not even get it started i had mine running on 90 psi but i had to get a spray bottle & hold the throttle wide open & squirt fuel down em then it would start. but ur compression is way down & thats probley why its only running on 1 cylinder, but also change ur plug caps there only 4$ each try that & then get a spray bottle but it's definatly time for a rebuild. dajogejr
What is your elevation?
jim1182
What is your elevation? Not sure on actual elevation, but i'm in Wildomar CA. Riverside county...Well in my non-stop tinkering heres another thing that confused me...Having swithed the carbs to the opposing sides and narrowing it down to the one carb due to the problem switching cylinders.I started the bike and placed my hand over the good side carb, creating a seal over the inlet side. The opposite cylinder comes to life like there was nothing wrong at all.Remove my hand and back to a dead cylinder...Next thing was to place bike in gear(tires removed and strapped in place) revved her up a little and applied a little rear break...Both cylinders came to life.. got all happy at that point thinking that carb had passed whatever i missed after the ten cleanings...however after letting her back to idle shee went right back to the dead cylinder ....confused as ever now as to why will shee run under load but wont idle on both cylinders... badassbanshee479
sounds like the carbs are not in senc, did you pull the filters and make sure both slides are opening at the same time? also make sure the slides are at the exact same height as one another. FAST racing has a cool tool to senc your carbs if you want them dead on. also di you make sure all the tors stuff was removed and or un pluged? chased a dead cylinder on my buddys bike only to find that he had pluged the tors module back in under the gas tank and did not tell me. Filters are off and the slides appear to be at the same height throughout there movement,no tors connected on bike, thanks for the reply..will keep tinkering till we figure it out
