65983cobra
Whats the deal with welding the crank? How much power will it take before this needs to be done. Is it worth it or shoud i just get a hot rod or somthing. Right know i have 21cc doms fattys +4 timing .20 over. Are the stock rods any good for more compression. ssanddemon
Check out this thread from a few days ago, it's got most of what you are looking for. http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=68599 The long and short of this is; weld it. Cranks can and have broken in completely unmodified engines. The accepted limit is porting, tho as stated, they can come apart at any time. Save your money on the Hot Rod crank, IMO. the stock one is a good unit and the welding is usually just $75 or so. Stock rods are decent as well until the power really gets jacked. Washburn
Yeah put your mods on get an IMPELLER. Worry about getting a new crank when you hear a real bad noise. I recomen gettin the stock crnak welded sure . Split the cases yourself though. then send your crank out. some people will tell you 1000 just to split the cases. NO. Not at all.
BigRed350x
Find a COMPETANT welding shop, split your cases and take your crank to them. Anyone who has experience with a tig can do it for you. I welded my own and I ran 16cc domes and saw compression as high as 197psi with no problems at all. I would def. get it welded though. the stock crank is a pretty good unit once trued and welded up. If a good oil is used and it is taken care of, it will last just as long as any other crank if not longer.

Animalman294
Welding it is a safety thing. If you are taking the bottom end apart just do it, but if thats the only reason for disassembly, I would wait a little longer, maybe after more mods are installed........
