should i port or head?

Recommended Posts

ok fellas trying ti figure out which i should do first. im gonna eventually drop a ton of money into this thing but after i pay it and my other 2 street bikes off. i want a lil mor umph out of her so i can smoke the other banshees around here. they have the basic mods like i do just pipes, filter and jets. i tried the search but i have been known to be "blind" b4 when looking for stuff. should i port her or go with a noss/cool head wiht like 18-20cc domes? i will ahve both done eventually but for righ tnow i want the immediate results. i do mostly drag (racing not clothes) but every once in a while a lil MX but it will be evntually a pure drag bike. thoughts? opinions? loose women for free? any help would appreciated especially with the loose women. lol :thanks:

One of the nice things about an aftermarket head is that it's about a 2 hour mod with a substantial performance gain. It will go well with any porting you do have done. I'm not down playing porting at all but if you don't want to take it that far apart, the head is a good mod.

Yeah but the nice thing about the aftermarket heads are you can always change out your domes for whatever compression you want. Say one week you want your bike to be a freak just get 19 or 18cc domes go up to a race fuel then change it back to 20 21ccs for pump gas for 65 bucks. They also cool some better and they ESPICALY THE ANODIZED NOSS HEADS look so much more trick. I would get the basic mods first Head Vforce 3s timing plate at +4 then if you want more power get a port job. If your cool with your power with the bolt ons save up to get your bike to handle better. A Arms shocks Steering stabilizer tires ect.

well how often do you actually change your domes? 99% of people never do after they get the ones they want,

as far as looking tirck id rather not spend 250 bucks to have something trick looking rather then 40 bucks to deck your stocker.

imtrying to help the guy get nice gains without spending alot ofmoney being he has 3 bills he is trying to payoff :)

Im going to have domes one set for race gas one set for pump gas it just depends on how well my bike preforms. I have bills too and cant afford race gas all of the time. And if you are on a budget then its common sence to shave and rechamber your head then when you get the money throw it into an aftermarket head. Sure. I bought mine so I could have the extra compression and the added reliabilty of a Head that cools better than a stocker.

Question? Why do all of you guys push for the port jobs? Its MODS FIRST then if you need the extra power then port it. cause your gonna want/need the bolt ons after you port it anyway. I say if you can do what you do well with just bolt ons then save up for handeling components. By that time you will DEFINATLY know what type of riding your going to be doing most of and you have the option of a straight port job or a 4mill/7. The options are endless. Espically with the Banshee

if your goal and budget is to run pump gas you wil leasily get equal performance out of milling your stock head for 20cc rather than a 250$ coolhead ,also they cool the same once therye up to temperature ,really only a bigger radiator will cool your bike better .But,If your dead set on getting a coolhead definitly get a noss head over the other models .good porting can increase torque and hp

by over 75% on a piped banshee. adding 30lbs of static compression (ex;20cc domes)is only like a gain of 10%.down the road both should be done however.
