Rippin-it
I just bought some Torco 80w synthetic trans oil for my banshee gearbox, but I can get mobil one 75 90 syntetic gear oil (for free$$) for auto/truck differentials. Is this the same oil? Can I use it safely and effectively in my gearbox? Edited November 2, 2006 by Rippin-it
jbooker82
no it is not the same. The 80w trans oil is lighter than 80w gear oil. Try this. Get a quart of each and shake them. Feel how stiff the 80w90 is compaired to the 80w trans oil.
Rippin-it
I get ya. I actually noticed that when I was buying the Torco trans oil, I thought I grabbed the bottle of lighter weight oil, but when I looked it sure was 80w!.
