BANSHEEMANIA
All I know is they are reliable, and like you said SLOW!!
bones
I have an '01, I think, all stock, yellow, no problems, runs good. Good trail bike among other things. Also have an '06 Banshee black SE, used to have a '00 Banshee as well, sold that a few years back. The 400ex, stock for stock, is not really THAT slow, holds its own. csrmel
my neighbor has one. they are really reliable. hes had it for years and NEVER changed the oil. he just tops the oil off once in a while after he remembers to check it. usually its really low on oil though sence he barely remembers to check it. i swaer to you he abuses the piss out of that thing. i mean he does things to that engine that i wouldnt do to a heroin addicted stripper in a back alley behind toys-r-us. that 400ex engine has got to be one of the toughest engines in the world. i know my banshee engine wouldnt last 5 minutes in neutral with the throttle pinned. ive seem him do that quite a few times as some stupid way of bragging that his engine is indestructable. maybe his engine is worn, but its not that fast. my banshee with stock pipes could beat that thing into submission on the trails or flat ground. ive never ridden a 400ex besides his though. okbeast
I had one that I traded for my 'shee. With the airbox eliminated, K&N with outerwear, and Sparks pipe it wasn't what I would call a "slow" quad. It holds it's own for sure. In the 300' I could almost hang with my buddy on his 'shee. Couple of my buddies have 400s, and I rode them a few times, nothing to write home about, but they are fun bikes, if your doing trails you shouldnt be upset at all. On the bright side, you won;t be re-ringing once a year, on the down side, your now a Honda owner
ClimbAnyHill
That's what I learned to ride & fall on. My bro's girlfriend has one. Anything Honda is very reliable. $1500 is a good price! Once you master it you'll find out how much more power you need. Keep shopping & get the Banshee!
thegroup
Anything Honda is very reliable. now i wouldnt say that. it took me a yr and 1/2 blow the shit out a brand new 2000 honda recon. burned 2 auto clutches out of it and locked the crank up so bad that the shop had to cut the crank in half with a torch. but besides the recon, everything ive heard about honda sport quads has been really good, with the 400 being toward the top

I have a Recon that is 6 years old. Use it for yard work (pull 64" finish mower). Have used it for trail riding. Also loan it out to other people to trail ride with us. Since it is our lawn mower, plus all the trail rides, there is no telling how many miles/hours are on it. It will be due a top-end before too long, and the clutch is just now beginning to slip. It's no Banshee, but I can't imagine anything being more reliable than that Recon has been. Next Quad for the wife (and for yard work) will probably be a Yamaha Wolverine though. NY350twin
The 400ex is a good quad a bunch of my friends have them. they are a little slow on acceleration but they have a decent topend speed. By far they are the best quads for stunting and doing wheelies . You can do 12'' oclk wheelies as long as you want, they have the best center of gravitry. They are probrably the best when it comes to reliability. If you go to the address in my signature you will see me and 4 of my friends doin a wheelie on a 400ex
