how much horsepower

badshee

Recommended Posts

hey fellas,, i have a 99 shee that has a 409 big bore which is 68.5mm pistons, with a kick ass mx/trail port job milled head, 4 deg timing adv. cpi inframes, 34 mm carbs, ported reed cages, reed spacers (probably not anything), k&n air filter wiht lid removed, and thats all i can think of.. what should the horsepower be on this set up? my jetting is 150 main 45 pilot and clip on middle spot on needle, 2000 ft above sea level...... throw me some opinions, would really like to know where abouts im at... thanks

what is your compression reading. i assume pretty high are you running 110 or pump gas ? alot depends on how well you have dialed everything in. the only true way to find out would be dyno somewhere close to your elevation. i would guess you should be in the 60-low 70 hp taking a swag at it !

Obviously these numbers are full of SHIT! How can the TR6s make THAT much more power over the CPIs. It seems like as soon as the CPIs start making power they all of a sudden fall off.

BULLSHIT!

Look where they stop the reading. The cpi's will continue to make horsepower over 10k, they just chose not to show that. This is also on a stock motor.

True it is on a stock motor and mabey the TR6s do out preform the CPIs stock but that reading is way off it has to be. Like I said they show the CPIs starting to make power and all of a sudden the power just falls off what did they do stop the rpm cycle a quarter of the way through then let theirs run! + they are saying that the toomeys make 50+HP and according to that chart all of the other pipes make at least 50 too. Bullshit! noway are you gaining 15 HP just from a set of pipes on a stocker.

hell fire some people say 70 and some say 50 whats the deal, feels closer to 70 not 50, and the cpi's are the shit. 99 percent of people will agree

I say mid 50's because of the mx-trail port. Exhaust port heights will be lower to retain low to mid power with that porting style. That set-up would not be tuned to your pipes as well as dune to drag port. That will cost you quite a bit of hp, exactly how much, I dunno.

exactly.....i would be very suprised if it broke 60.....

the dyno graph is probably not totally bullshit ,but cpi isnt gonna perform nearly as good as it could because the port configuration o n that particular engine was likely setup to match the reverse wave off the toomey pipe ...and as some of yo u noted the graph is also cut short to favor the toomey .the t6 are best suited for 188 degrees of exhaust or less ,but dont be fooled into thinking this is all that setup is capable of .IMO the cpi is a better pipe on a ported engine regardless ,t6 is still a decent torquey pipe for the right woods porting though. theres no reason with extensive porting/mods and the right pipes that it *could* hit 70hp ,but it would probably be lower in the real world  hp numbers dont mean everything ...i say go dyno it and see if your that curious .
