burn1banshee
I have 04 banshee was running great until it started backfiring out the left side and bogging out. I cleaned the carbs and it quit backfiring but still hesitates 3/4 to full throttle it seems to just cut out when i hit the throttle but then it jumps for a bit and starts to cut out again. it seems to get worse in 5th and 6th gear. I live in Minnesota and I'm running 310 main with air screw out 1/2 turn, idles and starts great. its ported and polished bored .060 over with paul turner mids and k&n. please help Edited October 16, 2006 by burn1banshee

burn1banshee
Yep. You broke a reed... i noticed a crack in the carb boot that connects to the reed but i replaced it and the reed looked good and its still messed up. I'll check the other side tomorrow.I'm going to try to unplug the tors to make sure it isn't that either. thanks for your opinions
dajogejr
Yep...forgot about the good ol TORS.... Start it up, warm it up...and spray carb cleaner all around the boots. If it wants to die down or the R"s drop...yep, it's an air leak...
burn1banshee
I borrowed a compression tester today and one side said 65 and the other 80 psi so i put the tester on a snowmobile and it read 130 psi so i assume the tester is correct. does that make sense even though it idles good and runs good all the way until 3/4- full throttle. the motor was rebuilt about 8 months ago i use amsoil and mix 40:1 my main jet is 310 and plugs are dark brown. It shouldn't have broke a ring and it doesn't run bad like the other time a ring went. I dont want to tear it apart if i don't have to. please help!!!! burn1banshee
By the way 130 was read on all three cylinders of the sled and also I only put rings in the one side last time so that could explain the difference between the 2 but not the low reading. I let it sit for a few hours and went out to start it and it started on the first kick.any suggestions?
dajogejr
Try another compression tester, or...tear it down and check clearances. At the very least you'd be out the cost of antifreeze, gaskets and labor to check clearances. What elevation are you at, by the way. Replacing rings on only one side is about the same as only replacing one worn out tire in a pair, or using one new shoe lace if one breaks...it just doesn't make sense.... burn1banshee
I think im just above sea level im in central minnesota the reason i only put rings in the one side is because it was rebuilt just before that then I put all the other parts on and i only had 220 main in it and another ring went shortly after and the other side looked good but when i do it again ill know to do both sides together, its tough when the wifes pissed about all the money im putting into a new wheeler she just doesn't understand its a banshee and sometimes you learn things the hard way. ive always had fourstroke wheelers and 1 dirtbike also a rm 500 that i got when i was 13 yrs old my dad traded an old honda shadow nighthawk that sat outside for a few years for an 83 rm 500 and an 86 yamaha xt 350 enduro in near mint condition pretty sweet deal but I never had to mess with the carbs it always ran good until crankcase gasket blew.So then i found banshee hq and read for about ten hours or so (not all at the same time im not on meth!) j/k but anyways now i figured out how to jet it and a ton of other stuff. but i think i found the problem anyways i diconnected the tors and it seems to be a hell of a lot better. i got home late so i could only rip up and down the road a couple times without pissin the neighbors off we already do that enough. but thanks for all the help if i have anymore problems or stories ill post.
