I have heard that before and nothing ever came of it. I think I am going to have to wind up getting stopped before I go to the hardware store to get stainless steel screen to intall in my silencers.

we got stopped 2 weekends ago and the dude was going to write us a ticket but didnt... we told him it was our first times out and we didnt know... we where thinking of rigging up some screen or something so when they put the stick in to test it will block it from going in...

Dammit. I hope they stop doing this by the time I have a chance to get out to the Dunes. The Baja 1000 effort at work is really cutting into my weekends.

I was thinking about getting a set of the Cascade CSFX silencers, maybe that would confuse (i.e. you can't stick a stick straight in them) the BLM rangers and they wouldn't figure out there wasn't a spark arrestor in there.

I ended up having to get a set of Cobra clamp on 3.5" ID for my CPI's with Cascade silencers but had to right them up because I could get the sparkies to slide over the screws that hold the end caps on. I ended up having to cut up a round plates out of 1/16" steel and cut a hole in the center for my silencers core to slide threw then brazed them together to keep the packing from blowing off the core and plugging up my exhuast. (Had it happen earlier this year)

After that I used 2 copper couplers that slide over the end of the silencer core and then brazed one of those on to each core so that will keep the core pressed up against the screen in the sparkies and keep my cores from wanting to back out.

Also I would go the route of just buying the sparkies rather than putting screens into you existing silencers. If they really plan to enforce it and be tough on it then they know the tricks people try and they know to look for a stamp that says is good. I heard also at Silver Lake here in MI they are training people what to look for as far as silencers go and which ones stock are spark arrested.

We need more after market spark arrestors for Toomey. I don' like how the cobra's apply. I really like the Toomey one's but man it's $180 for the pair. I guess we gotta do what we gotta do. So I'll end up spending the $180. Thats sucks to enforce them in the sand. I can understand trails. I was riding @ Gorman trails a few months ago. We figured we get there early before the entrance booth opened to avoid rangers and we did & thought I got away & was good to ride. Later on that morning after a couple hours of riding and back at the camp site, the rangers roll in and they eyeball the Banshee. These rangers knew their stuff! They knew they were Tommey's in need of Sparky's. A rigged screen would not of helped, they don't always need to a stick to check your exhuast! I played dumb part like I knew nothing about Spark Arrestor law. I wasn't fined because I wasn't riding at the time. They kept an eye on me though & couldn't ride the rest of the day. That sucked, it was my first time taking the Banshee out!!!

It will be interesting to see what they have. I have never seen anyone running them before, which as always, makes me suspicious. ALBA has tended to be full of poo evey time I have calledthem about anything.

WTF, the only time the sand ever cathes on fire is when there is gasoline and burning tires.

I had to get some sparkies at the dealer for my rockets. I think they were around $90 for the pair. It sucks though because I dont want to drill a hole into the silencers to use the screw that came with the sparkies to make sure the sparkies dont fall off. I have to safety wire them to the frame in case they fall off, and one did once. Its hard to get the hose clamps tight enough so that the sparkies are secure. At least they dont seem to affect the power, or jetting.
