96bansheepilot
really think i've made up my mind on what set up i'm going to run.....35mm pwk's w/ a 68mm stock stroke cub. i'm probably going to run the cub w/ stock carbs for a little while til i work up the loot to get the carbs. has any body run this set up w/ stock carbs? and what should i expect as far as h.p........w/ the stock carbs and w/ the 35's? also the cost to get the extra power by getting them ported really looks good. i'm shooting for 80-85hp. thanks for the feedback... I have a stock stroke cub and dyno'd close to 80 hp with 33pwks. Runs awesome.
dajogejr
My 4 mil with 68mm, T5s and Stock carbs pulled 84.8 HP....just a clean up port. 80HP is well within reach...but, trust me...you'll want bigger carbs soon! My 35's are setup for gas right now, with power jets...but, I'll probably ditch them in a few months and switch to 39's for alky.... Already have the CEL needles in them, keep an eye out in the forsale.... (I'm undecied if I'm gonna keep 'em in case I feel like running gas, or sell 'em outright) I've got a little more compression than you're running....(don't forget, you'll need big bore domes for the 68mm pistons)... You've got CPI inframes....stock carbs would be holding the motor back. There is NO reason why it shouldn't run, and run pretty good with stock carbs. But, once you get that cub, you're gonna wanna feed the beast a bit more! Cubs only need a clean up port, they already have drag port timings out of the factory. Trust me on this, just get a basic, quick clean up to remove the casting flaws. You will get more usable HP out of bigger carbs for about the same money as a port job on them.... The porting on the cubs out of the box is what makes them so good in the first place. Getting them ported and keeping stock carbs will only further hold you back.... rocketboy
yes cubs have an awesome design ,but theres a lot of casting flaws in cubs just like OEM cylinders also the port timing varies from cylinder to others ,also theres a few other ways to get them to perform better too without disturbing the durations . IMO a drag ported cub is going to have an advantage over one out of the box or one thats just touched up. cubs suck to port though... probably due to their high silica content and the nickle plate bore.theres a guy on planet sand who has dynoed his ported stock stroke 392cub @ 94 rwhp on gas but your probably gonna be closer to 80 without extensive port work and dyno time to tweak it in Edited October 9, 2006 by rocketboy
