ToomeySheeLE
Alrighty, I have a set of 28pwks and Uni pod filters. They came pre-jetting so i thought i'd basically be able to bolt them on and go.. well after bolting them on and trying to go for about an hour i through the stockers back on just so i could get out and ride today. I'm not sure what they are pre-jetted to(find out when i rip into them in the morning). But im wondering what they should be around, figuring someone out there runs a very similar set-up. Im at sea level, have a clean-up port, Cpi Inframes, going to be running these with Pod Uni filters...hopefully. and +4 timing once the jetting is good. my stock carbs which seem to be jetted very good, possibly 1 main size rich are at 320mains, toomey needles and 30 pilots i believe.. when i tried the new set-up out this morning it didnt' want to start, but will with choke open and a little throttle. Once i managed to get the bike warm(by screwing with the chokes and throttle position) i took it for a ride down the road.. i seems to work pretty good except want to die out once the revs get down.. i tried tweeking the idle settings, but to no avail, still wants to die when i dont give it juice. Anyways i have 400$ worth of parts that are pissing me off and was hopefull someone is running the same shit. Also the 2 little brass fittings beside the chokes on the 28pwks need to be blocked off? Thanks for any help whatsoever. Brad Just a side note, I congratulate anyone who is able to grind down the pwk bottom bolts to let the clutch accuator arm clear.. I thought i could just hacksaw them down.. needless to say this made me a trip to the local Yamaha dealer and another 18$ drop off for a new(un-cut into) bottom screw..*and a 60$ set of reed spacers(once they came in a week later)...... That wasn;t a PG rated moment.....
Flyin_Shee
Sounds like the carbs really didn't come pre-jetted for your application. When I bought my PWK30's they said the same thing but it was far from being right. Sounds like you need to adjust the idle screws and pilot jets. Find out your pilot jet size, main jet size, and where the clip on the needle is at. Also, what's your temp and elevation?
djackbanshee
When i bought my pwk 28s new they came with something like 35 pilots and like 135 main thats way too lean, i ran 50 pilots and 155 main with needle center clip, and yes those little brass things in the middle need to be blocked off or run a hose from one to another . locogato11283
whats the jetting in them? i have found that in all pwk carbs i have, 33, 35 and 39 the jetting is all damn close in all..i would suspect the same for 28 and 30. id start at around 160 main and 45 pilot and see where that gets you..first let us know whats in there now, that will tell a lot of it. ToomeySheeLE
Alrighty, I finally had a chance to rip into them and this is what i found they have 155 mains, 42 pilots and the clip is in the 3rd postition down from the top.. I'm at sea level and the temp is around 20C ( 70F) these days.. Thanks for any help Also Its fine to just connect those fittings together? locogato11283
id throw some 45 or 48 pilots in there first and get it idling good. maybe go ahead and up your main to a 160 to be safe. then get out and do a WOT plug test. that will tell all for your mains.. I agree...definitely bump the pilots up one size, maybe two since you need the choke and a little throtte to get it started. I would also bump the main up one size too for good measures. Better to be a little rich than too lean!
ToomeySheeLE
Thanks alot.. I was thinking i would be told the pilots are lean at least.. since jets arn't cheap im hoping i'll only have to do this once to get them close enough.. I will order some 48 pilots and 160 mains... I'll post on here once i giver a test.. probally take a couple days to get the jets in Thanks guys
ToomeySheeLE
Well.... Dont have to worry about that anymore... Blew the transmission out of her i believe... Rejetted the carbs and it started up nice and everything,, went riding tonight and everything was swell for about 1 1/2 hours then Pop, Banshee died and when i tried to start it all kind of grinding sounds , so i had it towed all the way home... wasn't shifting as good as it used to, felt harder to shift. for alot of the ride. sound like the transmission gone?
