RV DUDE Posted September 21, 2006 Report Share Posted September 21, 2006 I have a '96 shee that I just bought to add to my collection. The kid I got it from was using WAY too much oil in the gas. I got all the saturated gas out of it and have run one tank of my normal mc-1 mix through it. After I change the plugs, it starts first kick and runs great for about an hour, then only fires on the rh cylinder until I change the plugs again. The previous owner had the motor rebuilt by a Yamaha dealer about 3 months ago. The reeds look fine- what should my next step be? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

RV DUDE Posted September 22, 2006 Author Report Share Posted September 22, 2006 When I changed the plugs the first time, the pipe was full of oil. The plug is black and wet when pulled. dajogejr Posted September 22, 2006 Report Share Posted September 22, 2006 Change spark plug leads, left to right. See if it fouls the other plug... If it does...ignition problem. If not...mechanical problem...or...that carb is dirty, etc. That is...once you make sure the jetting is on... Stupid question...RV...but, how's the air filter look? I'll try swapping plug wires and mess with it this weekend- thanks for the tips. Ed I was also wondering if maybe they may have not installed the rings or top end correctly when they did the motor- I was given a box of old parts when I got it, which had the old reeds, crank, and pistons in it. dajogejr Posted September 22, 2006 Report Share Posted September 22, 2006 As long as the rings are seated around the pin on the piston, they should be ok...but, you can pull off the intakes and look down the cylinder. You say it runs great for an hour...that's plenty of time to be warmed up. It could be wrong...but, chances are the top end is ok...piston/ring wise... Also...since the air filter was in such bad shape, might as well take off each carb, and clean the living bejesus out of them. I remove ALL brass, and use a small speaker wire strand, carb cleaner and compressed air to blow through everything. Even remove the choke and clean it out good... Too much oil and a dirty, dirty air filter can easily clog a jet or another small passage... Check your float levels, needle and seat condition, white glove it all.... Just for the heck of it, drain the gas from the tank, remove the fuel valve and make sure the on and reserve screens are clean too.... Best of luck.
