Plug chop

So goin off that I bet a bunch of people are runnin their bikes rich because I know I/most people don't actually chop their plugs to check. I usually just look at the porcelain at the top and go off that.

Most people don't....

The porcelin tip can take some time to color...but if done correctly, a plug chop will color in one WOT run.

On mine, my tip isn't colored after 5 to 10 runs down the strip, but if I get a flashlight and shine it in, I can see the smoke ring is a little dark...so, it's all good. I could proabably lean mine out more...but, it runs good and is very safe, plus...winter's comin up round these parts.

I just did a plug chop and was looking at the plug chop link, it says you should have a 2 mm smoke ring but the length of the porcelin is only 1mm. In the pictures it showes a very thin brown ring how do they figure it's 2mm?

Are you sure you wernt looking at the cm instead of mm? I bet that is what you did.

Here are some pics of mine.

Thanks for the help, my plugs look a good bit richer than yours . I was only able to go to 4th will that make a big difference?

The porcelin insulator is at least 10mm long. 2 mm is just a hair larger than 1/16"

You need to pull the largest gear that you can for several seconds. If on flat ground that would be 6th gear for about 6 seconds. If you can only just hit 6th for a second because you run out of room, then at the end of the straightaway turn around and go WOT back to the starting point. That is what I have done when I didn't have a long enough straightaway. If you have a loooooong hill climb that you can go WOT for several seconds but can only get to the top of 4th gear that would work too. You just have to have a big load on the motor and be WOT for several seconds. If yours looks richer than pipebomb than your probably too rich.
