Pipes, Jets

I have a 2003 LTD, stock motor with FMF Fattys (with Turbine Cores) and a K&N Filter kit. It's bogging in 6th and it doesn't seem to be as quick or fast as my old 1997 with T5's. I called FMF and they sent me the correct jets for the pipes and I had my local Yamaha dealer install them, but it didn't make a difference. I still ride my 1997 so I can compare and it smokes my 2003. I bought the FMFs because I thought I'd get more low end responce but I don't get anything!

Any suggestions?

Yeah, gonna have to know what kind of intake setup you have too? still have the airbox? lid or no lid? Don't have the stealership install jets, pick up a clymer, and do it yourself, it is easy once you get the hang of it. FMF probably sent you the wrong jets. They sent me crazy big ones, and it sounds like the case with yours too. They sent me 380s, which was crazy rich, and if your boggin' out, your jets are probably too big and your runnin too rich. Find out what jets you have, and also your intake elevation, and normal riding temps. If you have an air box you should be around 260 with a lid, 320 without, and 340 with pods. Just a rough estimate, need more info from ya though, but I'm willing to bet it's a jetting problem.

6th gear on a stock motor with paddles in deep sand is gonna be tough...

Sand suck power, a stock motor doesn't have a ton.

I'd bet if you took that same setup on hard packed dirt it'll pull 6th much better.

Try going down one tooth in the front or up a few in the rear...it MIGHT pull 6th...

6th gear is very tall on a shee...you gotta have a few extra ponies (or lower gearing) to pull that in sand...

Yeah, you're right about the sand sucking power. My 97 with Toomeys didn't bogg...it just kept going faster and faster.

:)

Well...Toomeys are a better pipe, IMO....and, your 97 may have been jetted just a tad cleaner (leaner)...if you know what I mean.

I wouldn't pull hair out over it...unless you see 6th all the time. If you do...time to port that motor and let it breathe a bit.

No racing I ever do ever really gets past 4th.... On the 300ft drags...depending on how clean I shift, I sometimes click 5th as I go through the traps....
