Noss cool head and barnett clutch kit

Okay so I installed noss cool head with 21 cc domes last week...

The only thing I can say is that I've ordered it from motoman and I'm not very happy of how they packaged my brand new noss head... the 2 blue metal parts one on the other they knock together (some scratches on paint that cost wath 30 buck ?) and all in box was in news paper... not very professional (In my mind anyway)...

About the instalation... not very hard to install but the oring made me say some bad words lol it's very hard to take them in place... I don't know if you have any trick but I had a little paper in box who say use grease to let it stick... and it took me a lot of grease to let the largest oring stick on the head! :tongue: I didnt start the engine because.............. (read about the clutch and youll know :baseball_innocent: )

Not very hard to install it took me more time to get off all what's around the cover than changing the plates... all was okay but when I tryed to torque the first spring bolt.... THe first bolt... Broken! in the hole... my torq wrench was set to the specs.... why the hell did it happen? is it because de threads are oiled? somone have any idea? so now I'll have to take it off all and change the part who cost 50 cnd and do it again and maybe break a new bolt again? lol

When I did the torqing on my springs the first time, I kept tightening the spring really hard. My torque wrench would never click, the torque spec is so little that I was not feeling or hearing it click. It has to be done very soft. It only takes a little to break a bolt with a big wrench. Also, did you tighten all the springs in evenly?

You know those bolts only take 7.5 ft lbs of torque, right?

I've broken one off, too. Luckily...there's enough gear oil in there it just backed right out.

 

I use hi temp RTV on the ORings for the head. I had to remove the back neck and seal that oring and put a little on each of those bolts as well.

 

The RTV is sticker than grease, and it helps seal as well. Win Win...

Yea i was at moto-man yesterday they had lost my part i ordered 2 weeks ago . they found it hanging on the wall a half hour later. I would of sent that head back to them, i just got one from david at noss I think it was like 242 shipped good price nice guy an fast shipping. :beer:

I did the same thing a while back. When I did it the second time I said "F" the torque wrench and just did it by hand. A lot of torque wrenches are just not very accurate below 10 ft lbs. The spec is siomething like 7.5 ft-lbs, but I think the suck ass bolts break at 7.6 ft-lbs. Anyway I just used a little pick and worked on the broken bolt and it just screwed right out of the hub with very little effort. You should be able to extract the broken bolt and just replace the bolt for around 1$.

Oh too when I removed my head I seen that the plugs are oil fouled and pistons doesnt look like this (bigred350x pic's from the spliting case post)

They have more black on them... I run motul 800 50:1 ratio.... do you have any idea how it can happen? jetting? i run 270 main and all the rest stock jets

 

And an other question... is it normal that the coolant hose from the case is too short to plug near to the top of my noss cool head? I see like 1inch of the blue tube of the head.... do I have to change this tube for a longer one

The noss head sits higher than the stocker so you will have some of the tube showing,but the noss head, tube is longer than the stock one so you still have enough to clamp on to.

As for the clutch bolts, I broke one a few years ago and I have not torqued any since. Just snug them lightly with a ratchet and you will be good to go.
