Cylinder problems

I took my banshee to little sahara UT this weekend and it ran amazing the first day then the second day it started to act like something was dragging it down the second day. It was making a kind of muffled popping sound like the chain was jumping teeth or something, but only under a load, like when i was wide open up the hill in fourth gear, it would even cause it to lose enough power to have to shift down to second. And the fist day i could pull the hill in 4th wound up tight. It seems to be in the right cylinder because the exhaust on that side makes a little noise. What could it be, i am baffled. Any help or opinions would be very appreciated.

Check compression...

Might be time to pull the head on it. There's a been a few of the cubs that had the plating start to come off....less compression on that side could definately cause a loss in power....

CD, I'm taking into consideration you've checked the obvious, changed plugs, clean carbs, fresh gas/oil....

How much compression and timing did it have before, and are you running enough octane??

Did you check your plugs a few times the first day in the dunes to make sure you didn't run it lean??

i was actually running quite rich, and i took my carbs apart and jetted them one jet smaller, still rich but not to bad i was at 155 went to a 152, cleaned the carbs while doing this. New plugs and cleaned and oiled the filters, but to me it sounds like the ring is catching in the right cylinder or something, i am hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

I had about 180 pounds of compression and 7 degrees advance in timing, i am running 110 octane and it has always been fine with that no detonation or anything. And i was running at the same elevation there as I am here.

You've got your bases covered....you pretty much have the same setup as mine.

180 PSI, 110 leaded race gas, but I'm running a bit more timing...between my plate and my dyna.

About 8 on the plate...and probably another 4 to 5 on the dyna....

I'm running mine a bit rich too...I just haven't gotten around to buying smaller jets on the pilots and mains.

I just threw some 160's in there...cause I knew it'd be safe to start there....

It's been running damned good...but, I know I'm fat too...(and so is my jetting...;) )

CD...if memory serves me correctly, aren't you at a higher altitude....like around 3000 feet or so??

If so...you're gonna wanna go leaner yet....but I think you're on the right track...
