greencoloredride
Im fairly new to the banshee world and have been definately bitten by the speed bug. I absolutely love my '04 and would like to know what else I can do right now thats affordable without tearing into the long block since it doesnt need a rebuild yet. As of now I have T6s, toomey filter and airbox vents, ported stock reed cages w/ boyesen reeds, and +4 timing advance. For cutting weight I have removed headlights, taillights, park brake, ignition switch, cut fenders down, and removed all the wiring and cables involved with these parts. Also, is it a good idea to put a shaved head with 18cc domes on the setup I have? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
dajogejr
I'd shave the flywheel and leave it alone until you get it apart. It'd be wise to get the stock crank welded if you're going to increase the compression... So....save the dough, ride the piss out of it... Then, fresh top end, porting and a welded crank. Depending on how aggressive you get the porting, you may want to get a different pipe better suited to it. I'd stay away from 18cc domes until you weld the crank... You can buy the cool head now, get 21cc domes for a bump in performance and better cooling. You can probably still run pump gas, too. I'd wait till it's tear down time to get into it any more than that...though.
knight_ripper
It looks as if you have stock suspension on there as well. Upgrading suspension will give you major power gains....because of the traction you will aquire. Traction is a beautifull thing, and when you have the suspension to keep the tires to the ground....and minimize wheel spin, you will notice huge riding performance gains which in turn will make you faster. Id go with the cool head and 21 cc domes.
Animalman294
The suspension is an excellent mod, but it sounds like you want to go a little faster now, and dajogejr is right, shave the wheel, get pipes, a NOSS head w/ 20cc domes, timing plate, get rid of the air box and get pods............... But thats a start and will give a good seat of the pants difference.................
greencoloredride
About what hp is the limit of a stock crank? Also, does anyone have estimates on my hp #s? Im used to cars and street bikes so I dont think I could accurately guess as to what Im putting down. All I know is I weigh 247 and Ive layed a beating on everything Ive raced except when I messed up and lost to a damn yz125 of all things. Other than the yz, Ive slayn a yz250, rm250, kx125, yz125, 2 raptor 660's, modded z400, and a dvx400 since all the parts went on.
letsgetthisdone
ur prolly makin 47-52 hp with ur setup. If u include that huge sunoco sticker ur prolly makin more like 65, j/k. Welcome to the hq.
BigRed350x
If your in it for speed get some cubs on your next rebuilt. Mwahahahahahaha!
Ducman
You could get the stock head shaved/milled .030" to add some compression and get the flywheel lightened. This would only cost about $100 in machine work labor + shipping parts. You could still run pump fuel and your motor would feel way snappier, quicker revving. dajogejr
ur prolly makin 47-52 hp with ur setup. No flippin way.... You're not getting above 45HP with just bolt ons, period....you're only at 33 to 36 stock. You're not getting more than 10 ponies out of pipes, reeds and air filter... If you want to get above 45ish, you're gonna have to port it...period.
njbanshee
Get vforce reeds, change your pipes to something like cpi inframes, shave the flywheel, cool head with 21's. That would be a good start. If you have more money left get some big ass carbs. Then when you blow it up you will be all set for a sick engine. A lockup clutch a long the way would be good, if not deffinitly do a clutch upgrade.
dajogejr
I'd get CPI inframes if he wants extensive porting and a drag motor...if not, stay away from them... They're a top end pipe... Wait for porting for big carbs, you'll actually hurt performance on stock porting with large carbs... If you're going to build a drag/dune bike, then an override and lockup are a good idea. If you're just going trail ride and play drag race, not needed.... I agree...shave the flywheel...you'll love it.
greencoloredride
ur prolly makin 47-52 hp with ur setup. Welcome to the hq. LOL, the fenders are all gone now and that sunoco sticker perfectly covered those hideous warning stickers when I still had fenders. Ive never seen warning labels as larger as the ones they put on the shees. I guess its fitting that they have giant warning labels though. BTW, Is there anyone on here from the northeast. Im stationed here and Philly and have only been here six months. I'd like to know where all the good ride park/spots are and where I can find good shops to have work done on my bike. Also, noone mention the limitations of the stock crank and FYI to all givin advice, I use my bike for all around use and drag race whenever I can. I guess that means Im moreso going to end up with a mx setup since I dont see many dunes and its not an all out drag bike. I only said that cuz my bike is 54.7hp on a dynojet dyno with the mods listed in my sig so i figured the single carb was worth like 5hp over stockers with pods. Sorry for the confusion. dajogejr
No prob... I'm just gonna go ahead and say it...HP from a dyno don't mean sqaut unless you're comparing mods on the same dyno in the same reasonable time frame.... I could probably find a dyno to give me 110HP...then go down the road and find one that'll give me 85.... (Guess which guy sells more stuff...)
