mightemouce
Can someone help me with my jetting? Right now I'm running bills pipes and a boost bottle (both came with the quad). on stock jetting and im just above sea level. Im going to be putting vforce 3 reeds and a uni airfilter very soon and am debating between using no lid on the airbox or just removing the snorkel. So can someone aim me in the direction to go with my jetting or if i will still be fine with the stock jets which i doubt.
dajogejr
STOP RIDING that bike NOW. Anytime you do anything to the intake or exhaust, you need to rejet, period. Reeds won't change your main jet, sometimes you have to lean out the needle one clip (one clip towards the blunt end) Honestly, I think VForce reeds are a waste of money until you get porting done on your motor to compliment them. If the stock reeds are shot, pickup some cheap Boysen replacements... Get rid of that boost bottle, it's doing no good...only risking harm. If you use the lid, start with a 260 main jet, stock pilot (25) and middle clip on the needle. Try 1.0 turns out on the air screw to start. If you remove the lid, try a 280 main jet, and the same as above for the rest. I'm taking into consideration you are at or close to sea level (1000ft or less elevation) and normal riding temps for this time of year...which means 65 to 90 degrees.... mightemouce
Arite so I picked up some 250 and 260 mains and I'll more than likely be putting everything in either tomorrow or the next day depending on shipping. I will also be putting a tors elimator kit airfilter removing the snorkel and reeds. One other question is my right bowl is leaking from the bottom screw would that be a cracked bowl or something wrong with the float hieght? dajogejr
Could be either...normally, the float will leak out the overflow tube on the bottom if it's set too high...so, you probably need to make sure the gasket and surfaces are clean when you put them back together.... mightemouce
Alright so I have the 260 mains in 1 turn out on the airfuel mixture, stock pilot . and middle clip on the needle. I can't seem to get the bike to idle enless I'm barely on the throttle. Should I try one bigger on the pilot or more adjustment on the mixture screw? dajogejr
Are the TORS still on or removed? If on, you adjust the idle using the large knurled knobs on top of the TORS units. Turn them in to raise the idle... If they're removed, you should have the brass screws on the sides of the carbs. Loosen the locknut and turn them in evenly till it idles. Remember, set the idle when the bike is warm. Once it's warm, turn the air screw in all the way, out .5 turns. Turn it out .5 turns at a time until you get your highest idle...and they're set. You have to wait 20 seconds after you adjust them for the setting to take effect. If you get more than 2.0 to 2.5 turns out, put a bigger pilot in (27.5 is next).... LiftdT4R
wow, that right there is some damn good advice! It took me along long time, and a top end to figure out all of that out on my own. Still didnt know the whole turns to the new pilot thing.
dajogejr
Keep in mind, though...the pilot jet and air screw only effect idle to 1/8 throttle, then needle...then main. Pilots and air screws are pretty easy....it's the needle clip and main jet mixing together that can be tricky....
mightemouce
yeah the tors are removed idle screws are in and set but heres the wierd thing and it only happened on my machine because my friend installed his idle screws at the same time his work fine but mine I have to be barely touching the throttle than I can adjust it all right through the idle screws like it works perfect but the second I let go on the throttle that little tinny bit it doesnt idle. And thanks for all your help
dajogejr
The boss that you drilled and tapped might have to be ground down a little, like 1/8 inch or so. I know on mine...I had to use a scotchbrite pad and die grinder to grind that surface flat...and take a little off to get the idle screws to actually hit the slide. Loosen the lock nut all the way...and remove the air filter. Turn the screw in...to make sure it's actually raising the slide...look in the back of the carb bodies to verify... mightemouce
Yeah so It ended up being that i left the micro switch in the throttle and it was killing it so thats all straightened out now and its seems to be running pretty well from what I can tell. I think later today im gunna go pick up a new set of plugs and do a chop to just make sure.
dajogejr
At about 2 bucks a plug, I'd get 3 sets to make it easy on yourself.... Glad to hear it...have fun!
