IROOST1
I bought an 01 motor from a guy and it was siezed up. I only paid 150 bucks so it was a deal. He was a duner and his intake mainifold cracked and he sucked sand into the motor and it siezed up. When i pulled it apart the left side piston was siezed so i had eric gorr bore em and clean the cylinder up. And I put new pistons and reeds, and new maifolds in. But the crank was gritty. So i took a couple cans of lube and a gallon of gas and cleaned out the crank. When i was done there was nothing left gritty. And the bottom of the cases i could see were perfect clean. The rods moved fine by hand and the side to side clearance were good, there was no up and down movement on the rods and I checked everything over. Well, today i finally started it up and it sounds good. My question is, how long do i have before i should replace the crank bearings. This was a low budget project and i want to keep it that way. But I also want to ride it for a few months before i sell it. How hard is it to replace them. What problems should i look for as indicators of them going. SAND SUCKS
Bansh-eman
as far as you gettig new ones and replaing them your self good luck you have to have them pressed onto the crank. so either way your going to have to take it to a builder and have the old ones pulled and new ones put on. that assuming you dont have the setup in your house or work at a shop that dose this sort of thing. Most likely i would take the motor out and pull the cyls off and have a shop do everything. But i dont want to if i dont have too...
csrmel
id take the crank out and have new bearings put on it. while youre at it replace the main seals. it shouldnt cost too much money if you buy the bearings online and take them to a machine shop. any good machine shop should be able to rebuild the crank. there isnt anything special about a banshee crank compared to any other brand. its just got an extra rod thats all. dawarriorman
While I know your on a budget, and I know how that feels, I would go ahead and replace them now. Sure its a deal right now, but if one of the bearings bites it, it could get a lot more expesive.
fastcar01
It would be best to change them, but I have done what you say and the motor latsed a while.
dajogejr
Longer term...you going to sell it or keep it as a project? If you're gonna sell it, get the crank done the right way...as said above. It ain't worth much not running... If you're gonna keep it and make it a project later....ride it. You already know what it costs for a new top end...so, if you smoke the motor, figure another top end and a new crank...possibly cases. Your money, your time....your call.
