bones
Hey Folks, Great site. I have a stock '06 Banshee. I just added the following mods: FMF SST pipes/silencers Removed snorkel (will not be removing lid due to riding conditions) Removed stock 200 mains and installed 280's (thinking I need to go bigger yet) I live in NE PA, approx. 1500ft elevation. Avg riding temps 60-80. NO other mods. I did not touch the pilots or the stock needle clip position either (yet). According to my images below with my plug chop (don't laugh, it's my first time!!), what would you folks recommend for the mains? They look a little gray (lean) to me. Maybe I should jump to 300's? Thanks! Edited August 19, 2006 by bones

Thanks! Congratulations on the purchase! I also bought an '06 with FMF Gnarlies/Q series. I'm having jetting trouble also, but my plugs are black. All I know at this point is the main is a 280 and pulls well higher in the RPM range. My problem is off idle. Good luck trouble shooting...and riding!!! dajogejr
Did you warm it up on old plugs, put the new ones in, and do a WOT ride through all the gears, or at least until 5th, then kill the engine and pull in the clutch? If not...you need to do that. These plugs look rich to me. That smoke ring near the bottom is what you're looking at...and it's dark, it should be a light tan color if the plug chop is done right. Yea I did that, however, I didn't warm it up on the old plugs. Guess I'll need to do it again. Once i do it again, i'll rechop and post. Thanks! bones
Ok, Round 2: Warmup on old plugs Swap with new plugs, run WOT mid-top 6th, cut out ignition and pull clutch til stop. Remove new plugs, replace with old and drive back home and chop. Have not made any other changes since first set of plug chops other then new plugs. Also added some pics of the straps. Watcha think? dajogejr
I'd say you're about perfect to maybe a HAIR rich. If it runs and revs out clean to 6th gear, don't touch a thing. Better to be a tad rich than lean...
Justintoxicated
Looks pretty close to me. but I'm no expert. When you do the WOT test and Kill the motor with the throttle engauged all the way it should leave a black little mark on the arm of the plug (I think I see it there) As for the plug chop, I usualy look at the porclin after I have some time on the plugs, I do my WOT test after riding on the plugs a bit. I'd say that if your not fowling plugs don't go any leaner unless you want to experiemnt. If your motor revs fine but you notice a loss in power your too lean. If the motor bogs down or sputters your too rich. I don't jet compleatly to WOT test, I also jet by how the bike reacts especialy before running WOT tests. One cylinder looks like it might be running leaner than the other. Edited August 22, 2006 by Justintoxicated

Who knows if the blade or shell smeared the mark a little... I think he's just fine. Now ride it a while, new plugs take a while to color. After a bit, check 'em again (no need to chop em). I'd bet the tip of the insulator is a nice tan-ish color...which, means your fine.

I'm noticing a slight bog on the bottom end of the throttle at the beginning of each gear (ie maybe pilots and/or needle position?). I sorta expected that though because I did not touch the pilots or the clips yet. Gonna try popping the clips one notch. I still have stock pilots. Think thats good? New Mods again are: FMF SST pipes/silencers Snorkel removed (lid stays on due to riding conditions) Stock air filter 280 mains Stock pilots Stock clip position 1500' elevations Avg 60-80F riding temps
dajogejr
Lean out the clip one spot. One towards the blunt end. If it's between gears....as long as you're not lugging the piss out of it, you'll probably have to clean it up with the needle. Or...buy a real air filter, a K&N or a Foam filter....stock is garbage...

Im guessing that would require one size up with the jet ? Or do you think I'll be good the 280s?
dajogejr
Check the plugs again once you do that, I'd say you'd be safe with one up on the main....
bones
Hey Guys, Took 'er for a good 25 minute romp today and when I parked 'er, she was pukin' antifreeze out the tube. Should I be concerned? I didn't look at the plugs yet, letting it cool for a little. On a side note, it was puking from day one since I bought it new a few months back... but this time a little bit more then normal.
dajogejr
The stock coolant bottle location traps air/coolant in the line....it is possible this is what you're seeing. Check the coolant level in your radiator.... If it's fine...you should be ok... If not....you might have a bad water pump..
