rriggs
the DNR have been cracking down on numerous people "im one of em" for loud pipes and no spark arrestors...instead of spending $400 on aftermarket silencers, keep your stock banshee silencers.. they slide right into fmf fatty pipes and a couple other aftermarket pipes..all you have to do is make up 4 hangers out of flat stock steel to mount your original silencers...and walla! you are legal for no hassles from the rescue rangers...dont forget to repack your silencers! yeah, i know the stock ones look like hell and hold back some power, but hell, who has $400 to throw away on forest approved silencers unless you ride every day? im heading up to silver lake this friday at noon for the weekend...hope to see a few of you guys and gals up there...Rodney
LiftdT4R
Just run the FMF Turbine Cores yes, FMF silencers suck, as I have found out, but its only 240 + ship for a pair of these. Probably what I'll be buying next. They have a spark arrestor, and ANYthing is better over stock. Just my .

Just my .02 thats what i was gonna buy was the turbine core 2's, until i found out that they arent even decible legal.. only ones from fmf that meet the DNR noise restrictions are the turbine core 2 Q's..i didnt want to have to get back up to the dunes and get rejected for more BS...thats why the stockers went back on... LiftdT4R
damn dude, where the hell are you riding at? I'm guessing CA, with all those eco-nazis and what not. I used to ride open-header on 4 strokes all over NJ. Do they actually check your decibel level, or do they just say it's too loud. I've seen park rangers once in a blue moon check for spark arrestors, but to go around and measure decibel levels is insane. Spark arrestors I can understand, there is a minute chance you could start a fire if it is dry. Decibel levels, now way, It's my earth too! rriggs
i ride in michigan at silver lake sand dunes, and if they even "suspect" too many decibles or no spark arrestor, they put the meter to ya before you even enter...and guess what, if you dont pass their test, may as well go home...it sux..but what pisses me off is there are all the god damned sand rails built all to hell and louder than hell, and built to hell trucks that you know would never pass the decible level....what the hell are we polluting with noise with nothing but acres of sand and what the hell do we need a spark arrestor for? since when did sand and water become flamable??? oh well.....was just letting you guys know before you head up there and not able to ride... I hear ya man, like altering your exhaust is illegal due to noise but every dirty on a Harley rumbles by and its ok... :: Luckly we don't have those kinda restrictions YET... jakehopt
All of this seems pretty harsh to me, out where I ride I haven't heard of any decibel checks, nor has anyone said any thing about a required spark arrestor. That's definately a downer, imagine getting out there and having to turn around because of minor things...ouch.
sheefreak
Use to run Fatty's w/turbine core 2 silencers and passed twice at Silver Lake at 96 db. State law is 94, but they will let you slide up to 98. My CPI's on the other hand got checked at 106db. Now I have to play their game. I either truck the quad in, or I wait untill they nab someone to soundcheck them, then drive up to the gate. Works every time(so far). They are really no longer discriminating either. I have seen anything from stock 300EX's to the long travels get checked, and have seen a lot get turned away. 300 ex rang in at 88db if anyone is curious. BigRed350x
Wyoming doesn't give a shit about noise levels. There's no one here to complain!
