Swingarm pivot bolt creaking

Recommended Posts

The rear end has been creaking forever, and has lately got louder and more annoying. I always thought it had been the shock mounts, but I finally figured out it was the swingarm pivot (loosen it and the creaking stops). Retorquing it didn't work, neither did some penetrating oil.

Im out of time today to mess with it anny more, have to go to work. So I was wondering if anybody else had this happen, and solved it already.

That bolt is hollow...

If you have time and a drill press, here's what you do...

Tap both ends. Put a plug in one, put a zerk in the other.

Drill small holes, about 3 or 4 of them through the bolt itself (hence the need for a drill press and a few bits in case you break one...)

You'll never have to worry bout it again....

My son's Banshee is a squeaky fucker too, I'm gonna hafta tear it all down soon too. Mine made way more noise from the rear shock bearings, for some reason the seals were installed backwards. I did the same as dajogejr, cross-drilled the bolt & spacer, welded the head end shut and put a zerk on the threaded end of the bolt; works great.

Good idea. I think I've even got some zerks floating around somewhere.
