peterlocal22
whats up everyone, my buddy flipped his banshee over the weekend. luckily hes ok but the quad is not. any one else done this? he was riding up a hill pretty fast and went off the side were it dipps down like a stream use to be there and then into the woods. the bike was found upside down on a rock. what do i need to to look for? so far the two a arms have some dents , the steering is messed up. when you steer all the way to the left the tire hits the a arm and almost the pipe and the tire seems wiggly. the tie rods and ball joint are gone. the left pipe hanger broke and the left pipe dented and twisted a little. The pipe was pulled out of the pipe clamp and silencer. the cluch lever is bent, there are stress cracks on the frame were the steering stem comes in. the part that stops the steering stem from turning too far is cracked. theres also stress cracks on the arms that hold the rear plastic. the right head light is cracked. we started taking it apart today but he got a little upset so we stopped looking but will resume tomorrow. any help, advice or similar stories would be great. thanks peter by the way for any of you who know him his name on the site is vitovito240 so hit him up if you can help or post here thanks Edited August 15, 2006 by peterlocal22
duner
Be sure & check your steering loop. An easy way to tell is if the tank cover & rad. cover bolt up good, with no gaps between the two. Also look for cracked paint around the gussets and the loop.
Animalman294
Sounds like he did a number on it, sorry to here that. Make sure you check all the stearing components for stress cracks and bent parts.............
dawarriorman
As for the wheel hitting the a-arm, the steering stop probably got bent. Just take a metal rod and a big ass hammer and bend it back. Basically just look it over carefully for any place where paint flaked off and there isn't rust yet. Thats the sign something was bent. vitovito240
thanks everyone who has replied. thanks peter for starting the topic I have begun taken the banshee apart. basic stuff like plastic, skid plate, etc. i then washed it and found only two areas with some paint chips at the welds. the first being the steering stop. second the arm in the back that holds the back right rear plastic to the frame and the third was some were up in the front of the frame. i then took out a measureing tape and started to measure differnet points on both sides of the frame. so far everything lines up the same on both sides, includeing the steering loop. are there any points on the quad that i should measure. i have never done this before so im just shooting random points. not sure of the important ones. any help from experienced bike flippers would be great. lol
airdog
Ouch, sounds like you had an expensive roll. Some can be a lot worse than others. I rolled my banshee down a rocky hill for about 200ft and it didn't even bend my handle bars, but when my buddy rolled his 400 down a small sandy hill, it got his plastics, headlight assembly, master cylinder, steering stem and levers and such. Another friend of mine was running from some security and flew from a gravel road to the paved highway and ended up flipping it. That bent his axle and snapped his nerf bar and peg off. Good luck with the repairs, but it's too bad to hear about the frame damage.

vitovito240
i was just looking at the gap between the gas tank and the frame rail it runs parralell with. The rail that the gas tank kind of stradles. any ways theres about a 2/8 on an inch differnece between the gap from the left side of the tank when compared to the tank and the frame on the right side? what do you guys think? JKJK
Sorry to hear of your accident. Don't feel bad everybody does it sooner or later. You have to find your limitations somehow. At least you did'nt get hurt+the quad does'nt sound too messed up. I'll share a story. 2 years agow 2 weeks before i was to put my quad on the truck for the trip to Glamis.I thought it would be a good idea to take one last shake down run,to dial in my new front end.As soon as i rode it i realized there was not enough caster. It would tank slap if you let go of the bars. But that did'nt stop me .I jumped on it+ripped through the gears.Peaked out in 4th i come around a corner+my bro is heading strait for me from the oppisite direction. After over compensating to avoid a head on. The quad+myself did multiple violent high speed cartwheels. This was on hard packed gravel, after the dust settled i was ok but the quad was'nt. Bent axle+one hub.Broke the grab bar, brake+clutch levers+handlebars. Was not a good day! Thanks to a lot of good people from this site offering me parts. I had it all fixed+on the truck two weeks later.
