06 jetting problems

Recommended Posts

:banghead: all right fellas. got a few questions. im running an 06 shee with a k and n, prefilter, full fmf gnarlys and power core 2 silencers, no air box lid. dynojet kit using 280 mains and 4th groove needle. i know my shee is lean but dont know where to fix it at. dang pipes have already blued at the exhaust port. its slugish on the bottom but not sure if thats because its a shee and it falls on its face when pinned in 4th and 5th. middle of 3rd she pulls hard and strong. any and all help will help me cause we are leaving for the dunes at the end of the week!

300 - 320 mains would be good start.

300 to 320 with an airbox and FMF pipes?? Without an airbox, I'd say yea...but with?

I'd like to see plugs...

Wes...isn't blueing a cause from too much fuel, and the pipes still burning it in the header??

That's been my experience, anyways....

Why are you putting a 340 main in without doing a proper plug chop first?

Stock porting, just pipes and still using an air box, I'd bet money your already rich...

You'll probably have to adjust your air screw a little, needle should be fine as is.

ok i know i am dumb for not knowing what this is but what is a plug chop?

the dynojet kit said to use a 280 main for my settings but it runs like crap on the top and bottom. the blueing concerned me cause it has happened wihtin 3 minutes of riding it and my pipes on the my blaster have never blued.

just cause a kit says to run this and that doesnt make it correct.

you have to adjust to your bike.

i bet your lean on top for sure

put some 300 -310 and try it look at the plug.

I agree...

The Toomey kit comes with 270 and 280 mains, and you use them with K&N Pods or the foam 2 into 1 filter.... They are LEAN as shit once you remove the airbox...

Like Wes Said, put the bigger mains in and plug chop it..

ok i just got yalls replys about what a plug chop is and thank you for that. that is something intresting to know and i will try it out asap. last night i just went with putting a 340 main in. this is no joke, if i just breathe, yes breathe, on the throttle it goes to at least 1/2 throttle if not more instatnly. I got awesome throttle response now but it is so damn touchy. it also backfires like no tommorow. im sure this is a sign of running rich. cna i fix that by dropping the needle down in farther. i also went another turn out on the air screw making it 3.5 tourns out.

I APPRECIATE YALLS HELP SO MUCH YALL HAVE NO IDEA!!!

Put a smaller pilot in. By turning it out to 3.5...you're letting a ton of air in.

By putting a smaller pilot in, you're allowing less gas...so you don't need as much air from the air screw.

You shouldn't have to turn the air screw more than 2.0 turns out.

You're trying too much at one time. backfiring could be caused by the air screw being that far out.

1. Put a smaller pilot in, 25 (stock), put the air screw at 1.0 turns out from the lightly seated position.

2. Leave the needle in the middle clip.

3. Put some 310 mains in there.

Buy about 8 spark plugs, and do a proper plug chop. Get the mains sorted first, then the pilot air screw, then the needle.

Oh, and make sure the slides are in correctly (small cutaway towards the backs of the carbs)

make sure the choke tube is in place between the L and R side carbs...

Did you put the springs in correctly, and...did you put the cable holding tower on top of the carb slides in correctly, you should be able to see the little vent hold through the top as you're looking down into it... The pressure needed at the thumb throttle shouldn't be any tougher or easier from just playing with the jetting.
