Duke
Thanks guys for all the responses, now im just going to wait a little longer to see what kinda deals pop up. Im still not sure which i want to get but you guys have really opened my eyes to the banshee. I love torque which is making me lean toward a nice 450 but the damn cost of a banshee used you cant beat. Im not really mechanically inclined but then again it will be my first thing to actually work on besides changing the oil in my car. On the other hand my dad is pretty damn good with motors she he's gonna teach me he said so it'll be a fun learning experience. Do many of you guys ride trails? I've searched and all i've found really is handling and just need to get good with the clutch/throttle and it'll be just fine. Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated. All I do is trails/rough terrian. Even bone stock the banshee isn't that bad. You just have to get used to it. Like you said its all throttle/clutch control. I'm working on modding even more for trails though. FMF Fatties, v-froce reed, air filter, bigger tires, oversized gas tank. Soon as I get the cash I'm going to work on cooling, extanded a-arms, shocks. I went riding a few days ago with two guys, one on a raptor 660 the other on a big bear 400. Obviously neither could touch me and I was climbing stuff they wouldn't. I got on the guys craptor and it felt like a BOAT. The handle bars felt way apart and I just didn't feel like I had as much control over it as I did the banshee. The only thing that I noticed is that I took a very very tight turn on a small trail with the raptor in first, without using the clutch. Not to mention it has reverse... But all you have to do with the banshee is cut it sharp and goose it and the back end will spin around.
dajogejr
Keep in mind the new 4 pokes recommend new pistons after like 25 hours of riding, due to the tight clearances and short ass skirts on the new motors. I know the new Honda does (06) and the YFZ might...not 100% on that. It's a balance. 2 stroke = more maintenance, less costly 4 poke= Less maintenance, more costly... y2kbanshee9187
I would recommend a banshee if you do not care about putting in the extra time and maintenence every once in a while. All my buddies have the 450's and 400's. I am just as fast as them in the trails. They pull on me a little bit when we drag but I just got another set of pipes and reeds. I havent rode with them yet. I should be able to beat them now, or atleast probably keep up with a lightly modded 450. I have had my bike down more than they have, replacing pistons and boring out the cylinders. They give me hell for that but Im sure when there bikes get 4-5 years old they will have problems which will cost them more money. I like being the only one to have a banshee. Get it, it will be something different.
letsgetthisdone
Get the shee and keep this in mind. . . . . . Four pokes are like tampons every pussys got one . . . . . lol. With pipes and and filter w/ rejet you should be able to get a year out of ur topend. In 2-3 years with a four stroke youll be sinkin about $1000 into rebuilding the cylinder head. You will be way happier with the shee. Edited August 4, 2006 by letsgetthisdone

You will be way happier with the shee. $1000 to rebuild the head?? Over size valves installed, head ported and all new seals and guides with HD springs run under $1000. My 450 is a 04 and is no where near in need of any head componets. I tear my head down after each season and Inspect it. All componets looks as good as the day I bought it. I havn't even needed to change my valve shims becuase clearance is still at factory spec. and they recommend valve adjustment every 10 hrs. Only thing I've done is put new seals in because I was in there anyways and that was 35.00. I'm not saying the 450 is better then a banshee I'm just saying with proper maintainence both machines are very reliable. And both machines will cost the same to maintain in the long run. Brian060
Ever think of getting a 250r? for about 3500 you can have a sweet R with an aftermarket frame, LT suspension, one hell of a motor, and all the goodies. Its no shee in the motor department, but it still has that 2-stroke snap, and its a do it all quad for sure. Rebuilds and parts will probably cost less, and I think you'd have a lot more fun on an R, being able to handle trails and the mx track as well as your buddies who have the 450's. Check out R's on ebay to get an idea of what theyre going for. I think I saw some beautiful R's on the quadzone forums, under the full race classified section. Good luck, Brian Edit.... Just read you got a 450. Congrats Edited August 7, 2006 by Brian060
