dalegoldston
My laptop got drowned by power aid last night. I tried to drain out what I could and removed what I could to get the moisture out. But last night it still would not respond. Is it a lost cause or just need to dry out for a few days. stclark816
I dunno, but I just bought a brand new laptop from Best Buy a few weeks ago, and I got a protection plan for 3 years that says if I spill anything on it, drop it, run it over, bust it in half, ect, that they will replace it for free. I think I paid an extra 300 bucks for the protection plan, but I think itll be well worth it in the long run.. If you have to get a new one, check them out at Best Buy.. I just got this Toshiba Satellite Centrino Duo one and I like it alot.
dajogejr
I'd say remove the battery, hold down the power for about 10 seconds, then...if you have the skill, take it apart. Laptops are not for the weak or faint of heart. However, it's a boat anchor if it doesn't work...so where's the risk at this point? Poweraide is gonna be sticky when it dries, too... Keyboard stuck, etc. Use some rubbing alchohol and cotton swabs to clean it best you can. Careful when removing the keyboard and touchpad and/or pointing stick. They have very small, flat ribbons held down to the mobo by a plastic clip.... Good luck! Sams' club and Costco carry very good offerings from HP...from cheap to pricey, small to huge screens. ALWAYS buy accidental damage coverage for laptops. The screen is the single biggest failure on them, and they're normally broke by accident. They range in price from 400 to 1000 bucks. Animalman294
Was the laptop on when this happened or off? If it was on, did it shut off when that happened or did you shut it down? If you shut it down you may have half a chance, but if it just blinked off because of liquid on components you may have shorted something out. In which case you may be SOL
dalegoldston
Well my wife jerked it up off the table and I think thats where the damage came. Now it powers up but the screen does not come on at all. But it powered down by itself. Oh well I wanted a bigger one any way, but them damn things get heavy carring them around very much. dajogejr
hook an external monitor up...see if it comes on. If the LCD is shot, throw it out, unless you wanna use a monitor with it.
txblueshee
I spilled a wheat beer directly on the keyboard that I'm using right now.. it would put in like a number 4 when you hit the space bar n shit.... I left it alone to dry out for about 5 hours and it worked fine after that... I bought this HP brand new from comp usa... I have the same type of warranty deal that stephen has through best buy but best buy has a bad history of changing the warranty withought telling you... they use to have that type of warranty on cell phones... changed it withought letting anyone know then tried to refuse my old warranty when it came time for a new phone.... I LOVE my HP..... Whatever you do.. get the warranty... even if you don't mess your computer up you can smash it right before it's up and get one with brand new technology for the price of a new warranty (unless you don't want the warranty on the new laptop).... then it's free... dajogejr
Yeah, technology is too expensive NOT to get the warranty on some stuff. I have an 800 dollar digtial camera (SLR type, body only) and I dropped it at the Super Bowl parties this year in Detroit. The smash 'em up warranty didn't start until the manufacturer's ended, so...be sure to check that. However, I very calmly explained my situation (albeit a little embelished) saying here are my Super Bowl credentials, I don't have two weeks to send it out. For the price of a new warranty, (70 beans) they gave me a new one right there on the spot.... Trx... Spilling a poweraide is one thing, but a beer?? C'mon...that's blashphemy....YOu should be banned for a week... :baseball_bat:

STLBILL
If the hard drive is some decent size you might try to salvage it. You can get one of those kits that converts it into a USB drive for not much money. If you cannot salage anything from it and ever did anything remotely private on it destroy that @#!$er. Go to great lengths. If you don't Murphy's Law takes over and someone will find some way to get your personal data off it. It is worth it to get your frustrations out and not have worries in the future... -Bill Edited August 3, 2006 by STLBILL
dajogejr
If the HDD is bad, drill several large holes in it, all the way through. Short of putting it in a hydraullic press, that's the best way.
ogre03
Target practice... I'm always looking for something to throw some 338mags at. I'm pretty sure it'd get it done. My lap top is out of order right now too. Mine however is a technical difficulty due to my wife using it for college classes. It worked great when I used it for the HQ and porn, but as soon as she tried to be smart with it, it died. Point being....
