dirtyernie52
i have been trying for months now, almost ready to bring it to the "stealer" here goes 1995 banshee new crank and top end new seals and gaskets, new cool head, stock bore, no porting, and 22cc domes. when motor was at engine rebuilder i bought the moose carb rebuild kit, removed the tors, and put on a boost bottle, an a twist grip. put motor back in and it will only start when i spray premix in the carbs will run shitty and wont idle, sounds like it is running lean, tried startin fluid around all gaskets and it didnt do a thing, bike will not start a million kicks and nothing. 125lbs compression, 93 octane mixed 32:1. if I just spray some gas in carbs it will fire right up cleaned carbs twice now and it still does same thing. im pulling my hair out right now. if i open carb bowl drain screws fuel flows pretty steady out of both of them. fuel flows good out of petcock on tank. looked like carbs could be out of sinc, i will fix that tonight.pipes feel extremley hot after only reving it for maybe thrty seconds. motor sounds pretty crisp on the top end though. but idle and from 1/4 to 1/2 throttle sound like shit. a little backfiring out of pipes when im getting on it where is my problem? thanks for any help. trueraiderfan
I thought i herd that if it backfired while you were getting on it you were way to lean but im not positive.

dirtyernie52
checked right carb float hieght and it was 21.04mm so i think that is ok. she still will not start , but i did notice that when i got it running on premix again that it ran actually good with the choke on. maybe it is a seal in bottom end. where do i get the parts to do a leakdown test? i might try that. will my local yamaha dealer be capable of doing it? they are pretty anal! pipebomb
w/ FMF pipes you should have a #30 pilot. that's as per their recommendations.
dirtyernie52
will 25 pilots really not get it to start up? changing to 30 will it make a huge difference?

J-Madd
Even with #25 pilots, I'd think it would still start after a few kicks with the choke on. Check your air screws. Turning them in (?out) richens up the pilot a little. Check the choke tube too. Everyones made that obvious mistake at one time or another. Edit: I also just noticed that you installed a twist throttle. Make sure the cable is letting your carbs close all the way. If it holds them open it won't start. I've had that problem when installing a new twist throttle cable. I ended up having to put the bottom part of the old cable back on. dirtyernie52
tried the air screws each way. choke tube is on. carb slides drop all the way. :
dajogejr
Have you done a leakdown test? How do the reeds look, any of them chipped, missing, burned? Retrace all of your wiring. Did you disconnect the TORS properly? Getting a good ground? All the wiring connections tight and clean? You did put the idle screw kit in the carbs after removing the tors, right? Slides in correctly (the small cutaway facing the back of the carbs) I don't see what you did for air cleaners, are you using the air box, w/ or w/o lid, clamp on filters? You don't need a 30 pilot...27.5 should be fine, and it should at least start with a 25 in there... I'd double check two things. a. Slides not installed backwards and b. Float bowls are on the right carbs. See how shee goes.

J-Madd
How old is the gas in your tank?
FasterThanU90
yah ur slides are probably backwards .... sounds pretty obvious with the symptoms ur explaining get down on the right side of ur bike open the throttle fully and u should see a half circle in the window on the sides of ur carbs dont keep tryin to start ur shee till u resolve this prob ur gonna end up having a bad break in on ur new top end..
