fastcar01
Well like I said, the motor runs great with the slides backward, but barely runs correctly. Carbs are frshly rebuilt, tuned properly. I am not an ametuer at this stuff, so I am sure of my work there. All I can figure is an air leak? WIth them backwards it makes up for it? I heard it is supposed to run rich backwards, does that make sense? It runs awesome backwards thouhg, really good. Is tehre something else it could be? fastcar01
I have been thinking about this and if it was an air leak, it seems like it would have blown up by now, as most riding is done WOT. I am really confused as to what this could be. The carbs are spittin clean.
Dinner
If it runs crappy with the slides in properly, then it will get more air. So you have them backwards, which there is less air coming into the carbs. I think if your carbs where fine tuned, then they where done wrong. Because they arnt set up with the slides. What is your jetting, elevation and temperature?
dajogejr
Did you get the pipes on? I know you're using the 4th down from the blunt end on the dynojet (Toomey) needles, what main jet did you end up using on both? Did you remove the TORS yet, Dale? Do you have the choke tube in place between carbs? Did you accidentally swap carb bowls? Did you remove the pilot jet and clean the bejezus out of the carbs and pilots? Have you looked at the reeds? Like I offered before, if you wanna bring it by the house, I'll be happy to tune it up for you! His temps now are 80's to 90's...it's damn hot here!! Elevation is 0 to 1000 feet. When he picked up the pipes from me, he mentioned he got the Toomey jet kit, which comes with the longer and more tapered needles (to remove the lean spot in the middle) 270 and 280 main jets. I told him to use the 280s to be safe...there's really not much difference from 270 to 280.... Have you checked all your connections for the TORS? Let me know if you'd like some help, I've done many a stock carb tuning for these beasts.
fastcar01
Well I got the pipes on, adn tuned it with the Toomey kit. The tors are on it, but unplugged. I foudn the oring in teh cap is damaged, I will get another one, and see from there. My throttle cable is screwed up too, but I can;t see that mattering, it still works. I appreciated the offer. I may take you up on it, if I can;t get this sorted out soon. Right now I am going to replace that oring becasue I know it is bad. I guess I am thinking maybe it is running lean, but when the slides are reversed it makes up for it? Did you get the pipes on? dajogejr
It's something else...it should run like dog shit with the slides reversed.... I have an extra throttle cable that may or may not be in better shape than yours. I also have an extra carb cap and I don't remember if the oring is still there. You really need to get a TORS removal kit, Dale. Not only does it make for a bit easier pull, it remove ALL that crap and makes things a TON easier to work on with that extra space. Offer stands, you can probably get the whole kit from Magic or Vitos' to remove that crap... I'll be 'round pretty much all weekend, if I don't melt.
