nomad
I'm not sure if it's like looking at your own newborn versus someone elses baby, but my quad is beautiful! I just had it delivered this morning, ran it around the block and let it cool down several times and headed for the swamps. I rode in some of the nastiest "swamp mud" and got stuck five times. My brother-in-law winched me out on his Polaris 700 each time and we were off. The only problem is my low-speed jetting. From idle to 1/4 throttle position Sheera bogs or has very little throttle response. I've read in the jetting section about the pilot or air screw settings, but being that I have no experience working on her yet I'm going to take her to a dealership down the road for help and hopefully watch how they work on the carbs. The bike came from the dealership with a K&N (lid on), FMF Gnarly and 280 mains (300ft elevation and no engine mods), but I don't know any other jet settings. My mother-in-law took a picture of it after I sprayed her off today, so I'll scan it in when the film is developed. I feel like a proud pappa! :baseball_santa: Edited July 30, 2006 by nomad

BigCheeseStick
That "bog" your talking about isnt the jetting. Its simply what your going to see with any 2 stroke. They make GREAT power, but the power band is narrow, and HIGH in the RPM range.

I had a pretty crappy off idle hesitation. When I put my pipes on, I got rid of that "bog" off idle when I re=jetted for the pipes. COngrats on your new banshee. They are hella fun. Genchaos
If you're going to have it re-jetted, it may be a good time to consider any minor mods (eg: removal of airbox lid, aftermarket reeds) since this all affects the fuel mixture and would require jetting changes for each. Thats Right
I think that there are better ways to break in a new engine, besides bagging the shit out of it in deep mud, just my 2 cents. But then again I could be mistaken.
Bansh88
Mud? what a shame.
dajogejr
Mud? what a shame. Yeah...I think they delivered the wrong quad. You wouldn't take a vette or Mustang GT out in the mud would ya? (OK...OK...maybe if it was a friends, and you were drinking...and it was on a bet/dare... ) Same difference...
STLBILL
Hi all: Some of you guys spend hours polishing your 'Shees because you've spent hours installing mods and tuning them for pure straight-light performance. That is understandable and they look awesome! However, I see no problem with getting dirty once in a while. The high power and low weight make it pretty good for moist trails. Sometimes opening her up across a muddy patch of trail is the only way to blow the smoke out. I wouldn't "bog" with a Banshee though and definately not with a fresh engine. You need air moving across the radiator. While there are as many ways to break-in an engine as there are riders I don't think anyone seriously suggests running near wide open throttle with little to no air movement and cool water splashing all about. munkenaround
I have the same setup with the powerlid and gnarley pipes. I had a little bog til I changed the mix ratio to 32:1 and re-jetted. That factory 24:1 setup is just way too rich.
nomad
The "bog" is so bad that when I'm in nuetral, it won't even rev up; it just putters. I raised the idle slightly and closed the air screws from 3 full turns to 1.5 turns. It runs a little better in gear, but still can't rev the engine at all in nuetral. I got stuck in the mud because i refused to rev the engine high enough to get outta of it. I only barely touched the "power band" 2 times in 1.5 hours in 2nd and 3rd gears. I only hit 4th gear once. As for the people talking about getting her dirty...IT's A QUAD....AN OHV! What the hell are you supposed to do with it (rhetorical)!?! It's gonna get dirty sooner or later. The water in NJ seems to take the dirt off: Maybe it's acid water Edited July 31, 2006 by nomad

It's gonna get dirty sooner or later. You've got a corvette and a Ford 4X4 truck in your garage. Do you drive your truck in the summer and the vette in the winter, in the snow, in the rain...etc? But why not, it's a car...it'd designed to be driven on roads....right? A word comes to mind: purposebuilt. Not saying you can't take your shee through the mud...but, there's better alternatives.... You wouldn't buy a champion thouroughbred race horse in it's prime, bring him to your house and use it as a circus pony ride for kids, would ya? Could it be done? Sure... Fun? Maybe.... Better means available? Yep.... You're just taking a high reving, two stroke two wheel drive performance quad and taking it completely out of it's enviornment.... I just mixed the gas up and I'm waiting to use the remainder off the original tank before putting in new fuel. I was shocked that the owners manual had it at (24:1). I have my fingers crossed. dajogejr
No prob.... Honestly, you're just shortening the life of an already short lived motor... It's your money, of course...do what you will...
