dajogejr
Make sure your airgap is .015 to .020. Check both flywheel lugs... Any of your buds ride shee's? I believe 97 to 2005 or 2006 are the same CDI wiring. See if you could borrow one...(I'd send you mine to try, but I've got a 96 on my bench) Did you get your coil and stator from RS? Is the headlight switch on when you kick it and they come on...or are they turned off? the latter suggests a wiring problem. Time to get dirty. First, make sure all the old TORS stuff is unplugged, period. Second, untape your harness, look for burns, bare wire, etc. Follow it from the key switch, kill switch, headlight to tailight, stator to CDI... dajogejr
You have a few choices... A new CDI from RS is about 125...>I think, not 100% sure. New CDI from the dealer is expensive as hell...like 300 or 400 bucks. A new Dyna ignition can be had for less than 300. Ricky Stator flywheel is 125... Good luck. I just replaced my coil, stator, flywheel and CDI within the last month! I'd send you my CDI to test...but my 96 wiring is different... BenBB
Intermittant is the worst, definitely check those grounds. Just from experience, my CDI failure was all or nothing, no in between; when it decided it was done I never got it to spark again at all. Still could be the culprit but if it was mine I would rule out everything else (or borrow one to swap in) first...

1952
I had the same problem when i changed my stator, I didn't get all the slack out of the wires where they go thru the timing plate . Short of it is i had a rub mark on one of the wires , had plenty of spark kicking it but once started it was shorting out and spark was intermitent. :baseball_bat:
