tjz70
Hi guys need some help? I'm new on BansheeHQ and still real Green on the mods on my banshee. But the only stupid question is the one that never got asked . Heres what i got I pulled the top end to freshing it up (New rings and just to see what was inside) I bought this banshee real cheap as a none running shee and found out i got a better deal than i thought! I got the top en back togrther and put all new gaskets and a new oring set on the cool head and the cool head leaked on the right side ( If your sitting on the seat) who ever had put these on before used a ton of silicone and the water jakets packed with silicone which was stupid as hell! It restricter the water so much it shouold have been called a hot head instead of a cool head. so then I was looking at my so called port job that someone did to it that in my opinion did not have a clue to what they doing I will put a pic. on there are 2 ports on the left and right that i thought were boost ports but after reading other fourms found out they are something else but still have no answer.here a list of what i got in it. and a pic of the ports can you give me some ideas on what to do? O those side port there was a little to much gringing they went through the side and put some kind of apoxy? Not sure on the timing of the ports didnt map them because i think there junk. Bored 90 over (66.25 376cc) pro cool head (19cc domes big +++) ported ?? K&n pods toomey T-5s boost bottle stock carbs ( 410 mains ?? I think to much for the carbs ????) I think a wesico crank & hotrods (hot rods for sure) piston do go into the domes, Stoker crank? pro lite wesico pistons timing +5 to 7, +5 mostly runs best there fuel 114 oct. Well the silicone is definatly a halfass job but a easy fix.As far as the porting goes put some pics up and take some measurments from the top of the cylinder to the tops of the ports to give a idea of the durations. As far as the epoxy goes youll have to use your best judgement,I have a set of jugs that have a spot of epoxy on the transferrs and they run like hell and have never gave me a problem. If the pistons rise above the deck into the domes its proably a stroker. That main is huge have you ran it with this? Its a big main but i guess possible. tjz70
this is a pic of intake port. the extra port on the sides go to the tranfers. I didnt measure or map the ports, i figure the jugs were junk. and yea the 410 mains helped it runs like you wouldnt beleave. a buddy of mine was running 300ft. @ 4.7 to 5.0 on gas i run with him and have got him a few times. not very often though. got the head to quit leaking. It sounds like somebody really hogged those things out.Put some orings in the head and if you dont have any airleak then you shouldnt have a problem.I was leary of mine with the epoxy on the transferrs but i talked to sevral builders and they told me that it wasent all that uncomman.Mine run like a mofo and it sound like yours run pretty good too.In my opinion if you run those types of times thats pretty fast for oem jugs on gas. That main is huge but if the plugs look good and it runs good leave it in there. dajogejr
Those are called boost ports. If done correctly...they are a great port job. Some builders TIG weld the area there to build it up, only to create these new ports. Some use epoxy... Personally, I'd trust a weld before an epoxy... Those are HUGE jets, especially considering you have T5 pipes. But...as posted before here by someone else...they've used mains that big with drag porting...so, look at the plugs... Word to the wise, I only reuse the ORings once before I buy new ones. For 20 bucks, it aint' worth stressing over.

I haveheard that the jets I'm using are huge, the plugs look good got the timeing up aroung 5to 6 +. It had 370 mains when i started but the plugs were white without advacing the timing. so i went bigger tried 420's but that was a bit much. my big concern is the throat of the carb is so small that i didnt know if i could get enough air with that much fuel, those little toy carbs have got to go, thats all there is to it!! And now that i know that this extreme portting isnt that bad i think i'll take them in and a manchine shop fill in the gaps. wish i would have map the ports now and got some good measurement to post . hey thanks for the input and your time. dajogejr
Stock carbs aren't that bad of a design, actually. Once you start getting into porting, etc., though...they are gonna lose their ability to take advantage of that. Sure...you can run 'em, but you will be missing out on performance.... Good lucK! Youd be suprised at what those little stockers are capable of they might fall a little short on top but they are hard to beat for bottom end. Your motor in my opinion by wanting that much jet is telling you it is working on volume and not velocity.I wouldnt go throwing huge carbs on it with out tring a few the bigger the carb the less velocity and the power can in turn suffer from this. I'm sure some good reeds would do some good to. mine are stock or at least i think they are they still have the stopper on them.

Porting, carbs...then pipes. Just get inframe drag pipes....unless you only plan on drag racing and don't have to worry about any noise ordinances... It real just depends. As a general statement velocity favors lowend and volume top.But this is a very genral statement. Its really hard to explain, with some port jobs the cylinder will flow much more efficentaly and will pull more fuel through smaller mains.Im not saying bigger carbs would not help im just saying that the lowend will suffer if there too big.Having that said sure v-force are going to flow better but they are very expensive for what they are imo.Where does your motor lack?If I had to guess i would say its proably pulling preety decnt off the bottom and revs good but proably fall off pretty flat on top with very little over rev?If so that is due to the small carbs and can be fixed with bigger ones but there is a good medium.
