bansheeryder21
I'm in the middle of doing some mods, and I want to play with my gearing when I'm done! With the mods I have right now in my sig, I can go up test hill at Gordon's in 4th totally topped out! I can shift into 5th, but it doesn't pull. I am in the process of +4 timing and lightening my flywheel. With these mods, if I still can't pull 5th, wich of the two things should I do. 1.) change my rear sprocket to 43 for more torque-with this mod, I know I can pull 5th. or 2.) change my front sprocket back to stock (14) or maybe even a 15-with this, I'll only be able to pull 4th, but at a faster speed since I'll have a taller gear! Which one do you recommend? I want to spend the least amount of money as possible too. We are kinda broke at the moment! Another question, if I change my rear sprocket, will I have to change my chain as well. (because of the wear)? Any suggestions, I'll greatly appreciate! Thanks! Thanks! the cheapest way is to change the front sprocket, it sounds like with the 13 it is very torquey but it just revs when you run out of gear , it not putting the power to the ground . try the 14t it will cost you 10.00 . let us know how it goes
TeamBigginRacing
go 15...u can go 14 but i think u'll want to go 15.. Edited July 22, 2006 by TeamBigginRacing
sredish
don't do anything drastic. your obviously close, so if you make big moves you'll get big changes. you need small changes. 3 on the rear equals 1 on the front. So, start with one on the back. See how that does, if you need a tad more, go 2. If you need the third, then move the front sprocket down a size and start over on the rear. One or two teeth on the back may be all you need.

But my question with that is, will I need to replace my chain when I put new sprocket on the rear? $$$
sredish
I didn't realize you had a 43 on the back and a 13 on the front. That could be difficult to get right. I almost like the idea to gear up a little to see if you can pull 4th a little longer. Maybe try a 41 on the back and see how 4th pulls then. I definitely wouldn't suggest a 12 tooth front, due to the sharp angles on the chain.

I get beat by A FEW other shees and 450's. If I do put a 43 on the rear, I can pull 5th and be going a lot faster for the WIN!!! easyrider470
I think you should go with what the first guy said......try something simple first......nothing to drastic....between the faster revs and the timing advance we've done......you'll be KICKING MY ASS up TEST for sure bro! Go back to the 14 in the front and see what happens....we've already got the stuff apart to get to that......i'll put a 13 on my bike and we'll see who rules the HILL.....

My 14t is in my yellow tool box in your garage! I'll put mine back on when you do your 13! I don't know if I'm gonna like it just because I'm going to loose the extra torque I need for the sand! But with the +4 timing and the flywheel, it might be okay! At least I'll pull 4th harder, well faster at least!!! But with the 43, I know I can pull 5th, but that's more $$$ on the sprocket and a new chain!

Its more money on a sprocket plus another gear to shift. Putting the 14 tooth back on will get you 3 MPH more in forth gear. It should still pull second gear starts off the line just fine. A simple port will put you out in front of those 4 pokes.

That's what I was worried about with the 14t. I got my 2nd gear starts down good. I hope it will still jump out of the hole shot in 2nd with the 14t. So 3 mph will make a big difference? Racing neck to neck with someone, that 3 mph will make a big difference!
easyrider470
i'm not to sure bro.....i think that the 14 tooth will be back to square one....it's baqck to stock gearing, you know what i mean.....i think you should try something different and see what YOU like.......try to go up a little on the rear and see what you get....it's so easy to swap out those sp;rockets man...we can do it right there at the camp if it doesn't work out....so if it were me i would go buy a couple different rear sprockets...you know cheap ones....and run them one by one and see which one you like over the course of the weekend......if you find one that pulls hard like you want....then invest in a good sprocket and chain......it may cost a little more because you bought a few extra sprockets but hey....what's 50 bucks in the BANSHEE world!!!!!! hahaha i know you feel me on that one!!!!! ogre03
Save your money, call up Jeff. A good dune port should set you up nice. It may take a while to save up the dough if money is tight right now, but if getting up the hill first is really important to you, porting is in your future.
