ch8erbox
I got my Banshee put back together today and when I was tightening the cylinder bolts down one of them pulled right out of the case. It pulled the Time-sert right out, now it only unscrews it if i tigten it more. The other 3 tightened down to the specs in my Clymer Manual. Will 3 bolts hold a 68mm bore and 4mm stroker? I will have the stock head, with bigger carbs. I figured after I putt the head on and tightened it down that the other cylinder would help hold it down. All 4 bolts held on the other side and all 10 head bolts torqued down to spec. Do you think it will hold? If not What should I do to fix this problem? Bigger Tme-sert? Suggestions are appreciated. chris642
you run the risk of warping the bottom of the cylinder due to the uneven torque on it. You may be able to get thicker studs to put in there, even better you can just get a helicoil for it. I persoanlly would not run it like that and risk damaging the engine, you got to do it right the first time!!
BANSHEEMANIA
I agree that you need to have a helicoil put in. It might run, but no way would I expect it to last!

I would spring for a new set of cases, you should be able to find a set for under 200 on e-bay
ch8erbox
I thought about getting a new case but money is kind of tight now, Fixing the banshee, school and diesel prices are going to kill me.
ch8erbox
I thought about getting a 3/8 threaded rod and making one for just that one hole, heli-coils arent that much right now, I just have to see if a 3/8 will go through the bolt hole in the cylinder. 9603banshee
I would heli-coil it.....take your cylinder stud to NAPA (or likewise) and get the correct thread ( i believe it's 8 x 1.25 ) and then get the correct drill bit (which is stated on the heli-coil kit) and fix it right, it's very simple to do and will work forever, just make darn sure you drill a straight hole and not crooked, it could then be hard as hell to get your cylinders over your studs.....my 2 pennies Edited July 20, 2006 by 9603banshee
ch8erbox
You are right about it being a 8 x 1.25 stud BUT I can't do that because It already had a Time-sert in it and with those you have to drill the hole out like you do with a helicoil. They are supposed to be better than helicoils. I will have to either get a thicker stud or new cases.
racer
multiple time serts maybe? those things kick ass for sure, i dont see how you pulled it out, unless it wasnt properly installed in the first place.
ch8erbox
I found a thick-walled keen-sert and might try that, if that does not work, I will find something that will work.
