BigRed350x
Hook a fello up with some info on this There is a little insert that replaces the restrictive circular plate on the back of the vforce 3's. It changes the back of them from a rectangle with a litlte circle in the middle to a rectangle with another closely sized rectangle in the middle. Dunno if that makes sense or not. The more flow you can get into your engine the better, that's my thinking. That little circular restrictor plate needs to go!
2003LimitedBanshee
Okay, now I don't know exactly the mod you are talking about. But, if I understand the conversation here, you are removing the stock "stuffer" which has the round intake area, before the reeds themselves, from the carb end? Then you replace that with a more open "stuffer" so that the airflow is not restricted. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but, this would only be an issue (and I would think minor at worst) if you were running different carbs. As I remember when I installed my VF3's, and it has been a while, but the intake "stuffer" was about the same size as the reed side of the carb bore; so, it would be no more restrictive than the outlet side of the carb bore, right? Plus, velocity has to be taken into account. You increase the area, you in turn decrease the velocity, so I think application and other factors have to be considered. dajogejr
To be honest, I'm just getting mine together and running right...I'm not in any hurry to tear it back down again. If I can, I'll send pics. But red hit it on the head. It just opens it up a bit...
bkabina
I'll keep it brief. On 10mm cubs and down they showed a loss of power if the stuffers in the VF-3's were modified like whats beeing disscussed.14mm showed gains with the modification. Different setups are going to react differently. It's only gonna cost at the most $20. so it's no huge loss if it doesnt work.Just put the stock stuffers back if it dont work. Here is a picture of the secret mod,but don't tell anyone.
dajogejr
Good to know, Steve... I'll see how it works out on my 4 mil. I'm going to run some drags this weekend...and in the next few weeks hit the dyno. We'll see what happens.
sheefreak
I was also told by a reputable builder it didn't help under a 14 mil in their dyno testing. However, he failed to mention it might hinder performance. Good info Bkabina. P.S. Thanks for the secret spy photos!!! LOL!
