RIPPEN
you shouldnt get an aftermarket head just because of the cooling. i read a review of this head on an atv website and the most they could get out of with real world riding was 10 degrees. it rean 10 degrees cooler than a stock head. thats not much if you think about it. Thats not that much??? Not sure what kinda riding you do but for us every little bit helps.. Last year with my old setup( milled stock head) I could do only a couple hill shoots and it would be getting warm. Now Iam able to make several extra passes without any problems.. As other guys have mentioned its also nice to be able to "fine tune" what compression you want. To be honest I think the NOSS head is one of the best mods you can buy. Not only does it help performance wise, it drasticly helps reliability... RIPPEN
csrmel
i cant find the link to the review i originally saw, however with a little creative googling i did find a bluetraxx review of the noss head. although this bluetraxx review is not the one i originally saw it is interesting none the less that they also mention a 10 degree drop. coincidence? maybe. heres a quote "We are very pleased with the performance gain, but does it cool better? Well after the 10 minute ride we recorded the engine temperature from our gauge and compared it to the same exact warm-up and 10 minute ride test with our stock head and noticed a 10 degree drop in engine temperature. We did not see a 55 degree reduction, but this was just a quick post-installtion test, and we plan on doing more accurate tests in the future." ill take that anecdotal evidence with a grain of salt. it is bluetraxx afterall :yankyank: , and i dont see how they can only use a product for 10 minutes and then make a review on it. dajogejr
First off... If you're near sea level...and you're at .030...you already need at least a mix of race gas, if not 100% race gas. Bluetraxx... :yankyank: 'nuff said. The stock head can be milled and rechambered to cool about as well as a NOSS head or ProDesign, and run O Rings (seal much better). However...for the price of that, you might as well pony up a few more bucks...and have the ability to change domes as said. (Dave, rechambering the stock head for better cooling is right from Dan Hull's mouth, A&S racing, just so you know... I talked to him a long time ago about a cub motor, and we talked about this as well...)
rocketboy
in all reality its actually the radiator that provides the real world cooling .you could strap a 55 gallon drum on your cylinders and it wont matter once theyre up to tempeture, its all the same . coolheads are good for changing dome sizes and that s about it IMO . a cut reconfigured stocker is atleast as good and half the price ,but if your dead set o n a cool head dave noss definitly has the best there is
knight_ripper
even if it is only 10 degrees....it all adds up. the impellar alone isnt enough...the oversized radiator alone isnt enough. put it all together with ENGINE ICE coolant and you should never have a problem. thats the idea. with the NOSS you get interchangable domes...and imploved cooling. Plus they come in different colors and are BLING BLING.
1998banshee
Question with the domes...what size would you run if you wanted to run on regular pump gas? I was under the impression that 22cc were the closest to stock please straighten me out before I buy the wrong ones and blow my motor thanks
Animalman294
I thought stock dome size was about 23.5-24cc's. It also depends on your elevation as to which size domes you can run on 93. Average dome size for pump gas limitations is about 20cc, but you really need to check your compression. 160 PSI and above you need to run higher octane fuel...........
RNBRAD
Billet also dissipates heat better than cast.
