dajogejr
Pull the choke out. If it gets real, real bad...you're too rich on the pilot circuit...and possibly the needle too. Sounds like you are rich. Start by turning the air screws out 3 turns from the lightly seated position. You don't want to leave them like that...but, if it starts getting better, buy some leaner (smaller) pilot jets, and turn the screw back to 1 turn out. If it cleans up with only 2 turns out on the air screws...leave it there.
apbt549
tks i will try that tomorrow.so just turn them out like 2 turns and see if it runs better .thats what i was thinking if its better then i can leave it 2 turns out but not 3 .do you think i might have to move the needle clip up right to lean it out? dajogejr
Start with the air screws first. IF it runs worse off idle when you half choke it, turn them each out 3. still not running good enough, then change the pilots. Once it gets better...you can bump the needle if you feel necessary... Remember, pilot jet/air screw account for idle to 1/8 throttle...then the needle starts to kick in.
apbt549
when i pull the chokes out the problem goes away........
apbt549
with the choke on its runs fine ..i turned them out 3 turns and it got worse......
dajogejr
Then you have one or two problems. An air leak, or too lean on the pilot circuit. Get the next two sizes up for your pilots. Start with 1.0 turns out, go from there...
apbt549
i checked for air leaks didn't find any i guess i can squrit diwn the bike with some brake clean and see if it changes..but when i went 3 turns out it got worse . i change the pilots it had #42 in it and all i had was some 50's so i stuck them in there and turned it out 1 turn on each and it runs better how do i judge how much to turn it out ? just turn it out 1.5 turns and see if it gets better? and just keep going..... dajogejr
Turn it out or in until you get the highest idle possible. Make sure you allow 20 to 30 seconds after you adjust it for the new setting to take effect... If you wind up .5 to 2.5 out...you're good to go. Then, adjust the idle to where you want it. I think it should be around 1500 to 1800 RPM.
ellison445
Bump that pilot up a size... You pulling the choke and the problem going away is a clear sign of a lean pilot!
apbt549
tks guys.........how do you tell were the idle is set at? how do you know its at 1800rpm so the brass screw sets the idle also? right now its at 1 turn out i will see how its acts when i turn it to 2 turns out that should change the idle? what about the black plastic screw on the carb its black and plastic and has a spring on it what is that for it adjust the idle also doesn't it...... dajogejr
Well...to be honest, I just kinda use my ear for it. Not too low to where it's stumbling...but not too high either. I have no idea what black plastic screw thing you're talking about...unless you're referring to the choke knob...
apbt549
i found out the black plastic screw is a idle adjustment screw.....tks for the help........
