CadillacBanshee
Check your reeds for cracks and then make sure your main jet is not clogged. Check the plugs yet?
nitroburner13
i checked the plugs and they were a bit rich. i leaned it out a little and it still does the same thing. ill check the reeds tonight. thanks
dajogejr
What mods do you have? What kind of gas are you running? Elevation? Temps? Pulling the head off is a great start, but you might be at the point of pulling off the jugs to check piston clearance, ring end gap, rod bearing play.... Stupid question....but is the Oring on the exaust pipe sealed? Any cracks near the spring mounts? Any leaking by where the stinger tube meets the pipe? Just some shots in the dark.... Believe me anything dajogejr thinks is "a shot in the dark", heh heh, just kidding bro. But seriously mine does that too and I have pretty much decided it's the water impeller (stock). Are you SURE it's coming from the left cylinder? Mine sounds like it is but it's not. If it was a main or rod bearing usually the noise gets louder when you rev it. Mine go's away completly when it's revd.
nitroburner13
ya im pretty positive its comin from the cylinder cuz if i cup my hand over the silencer it muffles the sound. my motor is mostly stock. stock porting. its got a 50 over set of pro lites in jerry hall cylinders. head shaved 20 thousandths. stock carbs with 300 mains and 25 pilots, v-force 2, trinity manifolds.. dyna fs programmable cdi which is set at stock curve and my timing is only advanced 2 degrees. oh and a set of t-5's. checked the reeds yesterday and they are all in good shape. no cracks or anything. and i run 103 vp with royal purple 2 stroke at 40:
dajogejr
Tough call... You've done your homework, that's for sure. I agree...normally crank or rod bearing will get louder...and they won't be loud very long, just a bang and dead stop. Question...does it go away if you pull your clutch lever in? Maybe something is loose in the actuator arm, which...is by the left side of the motor. Since you took it apart and it looked good...this is a tough one. I really hate to say it, but...it might be time for a tear down and measurement on everything. Or...you could just ride it that way, wait till it (If it does) gernades...and rebuild it from the ground up. That's the non-preferred expensive way, however... On a side note, once you get this sorted...set the plate back to 0 and use the third setting on the Dyna...and get some 110 octane to be safe if you can. My Dyna gets here Friday, I can't wait to hook it up to my laptop to mess with the curves!! Sorry i'm not much help on this one...hope you get it figured out. BradleyGZ
This is just my 2 cents. Since you have seemed to checked everything else. You say you checked the plugs, did you just look at them or did you actually replace them with new plugs. Both times my bike started poping, it was one or both of my plugs starting to go bad. Try replaceing them with new ones and try that. If that dont work, sorry I cant help. Well, good luck.
dajogejr
Yeah, I read that too fast. I thought it said he already replaced the plugs. That would be the very first thing....sorry...
