rjvoight
I am a long time MX fan, back to the days of Rick Johnson, Jeff Ward, Bob Hannah etc. I have watched with great anticipation over the last few years with the likes of Bubba and Chad Reed and Kevin Windham wondering who was going to take Carmichael off his throne. I have come to one conclusion, NOBODY but RC himself is going to make him step down. All the Stewart believers, you are right, he is the future of MX. But he will never be able to say he dethroned RC. It does not matter if you are a second faster over all if you crash out. RC knows where that ragged edge is and he lives there, in comfort. Bubba has tried to set up shop there as well but always gets ahead of himself. Next year, Stewart will have the bullseye on his back and he better watch out for a yound Davi Millsaps and a healthy Ivan Tedesco! I know there are some MX fans on here, what do you guys think? Who is up and coming? RJV
iceman
Honestly I think that James Stewart will get it together. I think right now he is just young and he is having a hard time with trying to push himself too far. I think as he progresses he will become more aware of his strengths and weaknesses and begin to emphasize his strengths. I think that he will eventually be the GOAT. Ricky Carmichael is an amazing rider but he is also older than James Stewart and has more race time under his belt so thats always an advantage. I also think that while Davi Millsaps and Ivan Tedesco are great riders but I don't think they will catch Bubba.
Ducman
That was pretty well said. Stewart is awsome but he doesn't know when he's pushed it too far. I think RC is just about as fast but makes a concious decision to not push as hard as Buba who will find himself on the injured list pretty regularly if he doesn't settle for consistency rather than first place every once in a while. rkc
motocross is the perfect sport It's the best of both worlds great athletes and man's technology. Theyr'e other sports that have the same components but the weight ratios are what makes the comb so great. will ricky be the greatest of all time. time will only tell. my up coming favorite is davi millsaps partly bcz of honda, my first bike was a 1973 honda but I'm rootiing for bubba also he's vertically challenged just like jeff ward (& me). dawarriorman
Its just the natural cycle. People all said the same thing about Mcgrath. He would lose a race occasionally, but generally just checked out in first couple laps and build up a huge lead. RC was young, and when Mcgrath finally started to fall off, thats when RC came into the spotlight. He had finally built up some experience, had a few years under his belt, then he was ready to go. Same thing is going to happen again, maybe with stewart. Give him a few years, let him get some experience, and RC will start to fall off as bubba is there to take his place. dajogejr
Without a doubt...RC is the GOAT. Yes, MC has about twice as many supercross wins...but that's it. MC was never that good outdoors. Ok, make that he NEVER dominated like RC does in MX. Let alone, we may never see two perfect seasons, on two different bikes. RC is racing "selected supercross" races next year... Don't forget, when RC was a rook in the 250's...his first two years were rough. Then...he turned it on...indoors and out. This was either bubba's 2nd or 3rd year on the big bike (can't remember) and he hasn't been able to keep the rubber side down consistently. He may or may not be the future...he's got a ways to go. I don't know how many others can claim indoor and outdoor championships on three different manufacturers... He even took a "zuke to the championship...something even MC couldn't do... I've followed RC's career since the ametuer days in Loretta Lynn's. I can remember all the hype of him and KDub coming up...and I think we all can agree RC lived up to that hype. RC was never the fair spoken, pretty boy face of MX or SX in the same way MC was. MC was the poster child and ambassador for the sport, and he did that very, very well. RC was all about racing, period. If he got second, he was pissed. No one wants to win as bad as RC does, period. Some people talk about being happy about being on the podium...not RC. It's first or nothing. His training regimen is second to none, as his commitment. You simply can't knock a guy for that!!! RC is the GOAT, without a doubt!!! rjvoight
I totally agree with everyone that Bubba is the man to beat next year. Unfortunately, he was never able to dethrone RC in the two seasons they raced together (RC is retiring after this season). He made it a show for sure, but just could not hold a pace that was faster than RC without falling. I really think Tedesco has a shot to come up and run. I know he is a dark horse, but he has shown some serious speed in the past and I think with Suzuki behind him, RC, Rick Johnson, Decoster and everyone else, he could be a very serious threat! I love MX, I wish I had the time and money to devote to the sport like I want to! RJV
Lee
Figured I'd share my pic from Southwick a couple of years ago (carmichael behind the guy on the left). Always good to see RC go all out. It was great to see "Bubba" out there on the track too. They're both very competitive riders and set new precidences for the MX scene and other riders. I definately don't think Bubba is going to beat RC while he's racing but I think that once Bubba gets more experience out on the tracks then he will be a better racer than RC. IF he could just control himself he would be better than RC I think. So I think that if RC tries to make a come back later on, which is somewhat unlikely after retirement, Bubba will have the experience and control to dominate him. dajogejr
I see RC pulling a "Part Time" like MC, Henry and Dowd often do. You can bet your arse he'll race Daytona for a few years after he retires...just for fun, and probably a few other select outdoor races. I'm not sure if he's racing part time outdoors next year, but...he is part time in SX...
racer
I think with RC out of the way bubba will be faster. RC was/is on another level than any rider out there, and that pressure is what got to stewart. with RC no longer at the gate no other rider will push the 259 bike as hard, and his times will drop as he gets more comfortable. go millsaps. get well Fonseca. tithead
i watched the las vegas round tonight... bubba won, RC second, chad reed 3rd. the commentators were saying that RC is booked in for every outdoor mx event this year... but next year he is not... hes only doing a few mx/sx rounds and instead, is doing testing with nascar. dajogejr
To be honest...MX and SX have been exciting to watch the last 2 years. We all remember the MC check out and see you later. BORING!! With the mixup of RC, Bubba and Reed...it was at least interesting to watch... I'm not a Reed or Bubba fan, but I respect them and their talents/ability. I agree...I think Bubba will only have to push it 95 to 97% out there with RC gone, and that's fast enough to beat just about all of the field. I couldn't agree more, RC is comfortable riding on the edge and staying there, while bubba hasn't found that mix yet. He pushes a little to hard, and often pays dearly for it... DirtyFitz
The GOAT to me has always been MC, 7 Championships under his belt. From what I remember 3-4 years ago when MC lost his title to RC by messing up on a berm I was so upset because I was there at the race on the tip of my toes hoping he would sweep number 8, MC has always been the man to me retired or not. Those that say we'll see RC fall off, it'll happen. Its just a cycle of Old guys vs. New guys and in the end the younger more fit riders prevail. No doubt it makes the sport that much more exciting and fun but all of us that like the old timers and older racers remember the days of nothing but 2 strokes roaming the track just tearing it up. I remember watching the 500's race on the open tracks (coolest races in my opinion).
