Noss Machine Head

I just bought a Noss Machine cylinder head for my 99 banshee. I called them and they said that I wont need to use a head gasket with this head. So now I am wondering how can those o rings take the heat and cylinder pressure that will be put on them and last. And has anyone had any problems with them so far as reliability. Im sure they will work fine I just wanted someone's opinion on them.

 

First, O-rings are the sealing method of choice in high compression engines. My experience in high compression engines comes from supercharged small block chevy applications, and at high cylinder pressures, standard cylinder head gaskets will start to be pushed out. The next step (and it is expensive, is to have the block and heads milled for O-rings. So, yes they will take the pressure, heat etc. fine. Obviously at some point they will need to be serviced, but they should hold up for some time.

 

As David mentioned, you will definitely want to run race gas with those domes. Is your bike ported, as that will help to lower your cylinder pressures. But, FYI I am running 20cc domes on my unported bike, and it pumped out 175 psi at 1965' elevation (guesstimate near 190 psi range at sea level). And Glamis, although I've yet to ride there, is below sea level I believe. You'll probably want to get your crank welded soon so that you don't scatter it. I've haven't done mine yet, but I've only got one trip to the dunes on it, with one more planned before I port my cylinders and I'm welding mine up at that point. You're going to love that head, I couldn't believe how much it improved the bottom end on mine! :headbang:

A lot of people get away with 18cc domes and a stock crank but some don't. I wouldn't drop the clutch with it rev'ed way up, with really good traction until the crank is welded. Run the highest octane race gas you can get if you have that Dyna cranked up.

Ok I wont worry about grtting the crank welded yet. But when the crank goes will it destroy anything besides it's self .

You have a 95% chance of it taking something with it...

If you're going through the steps to weld that crank, I'd freshen up the top end, too.

Actually...check the compression first...maybe just a hone and rering if everything is in spec.

Most likely yes. If you scatter it at high RPM's you could potentially scrap the whole thing. Like said above, depends on your luck. For the $55 or so (if I remember right?) plus some time in splitting the cases, I wouldn't chance it. :baseball_bat:

What size domes did you get ?

19cc and I'm at about 500 to 700ft in elevation (lots of hills). I'm running a mild GYTR cdi, but my motor is apart so I haven't decided whether to run 100 ($4.25/gal) or 110($5.39/gal). I just wanted to give the race gas a try so I went with the 19cc's to start with.
